Default Up in the Air

When I first got my 08 FLH I thought I was going to like the heel/toe, but since then my left knee has been killing me........ I Know it is coming from lifting my knee up everytime to shift because if I don't ride it for a couple days my knee quits hurting. I've seen lowering kits, I might go that way. But for now I'm Thinking Toe only

I have left the heel/toe on so far just to try it out. I haven't had any trouble with it yet but I haven't done any long rides either. I did make sure that I have the tools in the saddle bag to take it off if the mood strikes me.

I use both but will probably add extensions for more space on the footboard.

I prefer the Heel/Toe Shifter, I find it easier to use and do not have to get your foot under to shift up, My .02 Cents worth!

Here is a question for those who favor the toe shifter. Is it because your previous bike(s) had a toe shifter and that's what you got used to and find it hard to change?
I think that is the answer. That and some guys just have too big a foot to fit comfortably on the floor board with the heel and toe shifter. I know I started out on a Honda years ago and had a toe shifter only. Using the heel shifter does take some getting used to at first but it doesn't take long for it to become second nature. I mainly started using it because I thought the bike shifted smoother.

Now, after about 5,000 miles I can't stand to use the toe shift on the Ultra. I guess things change with time, or is that with age??

I also had a time adjusting to using the clutch from my previous dirt biking years and failed to use the cluth a few times on the softail. Anyone else feel that not using the clutch all time time will have a negative effect on the tranny? I do use both heel and toe on the EG and find myself reaching for the heel on the softail occansionally. BTW, I have a size 12 and havent had an issue with the lack of room so far.
