The measurement is taken from the top edge of the fairing to the top of the windsheild.

Why not replace with stock then?

Replace it with a 12" recurve from Clearview Winshields, if the 12" stock is perfect for you the recurve will move even more wind over your head and your field of view will be the same.

Memphis Shades makes a pretty good shield though...

Stock Harley windshields are too easy to scratch IMO. The Memphis Shade replacement shield I have now is much more scratch resistant.

I had stock, then got a Clearview 12" smoked and now just bought a Wind Vest 10" Smoke. I'm just not tall enough for the 12". The 10" Wind Vest fits perfect for me, see very well over the top and their recurve seems to be a bit more extreme to deflect the wind a couple inches over my helmet. As far as thickness of the shield, I think Clearview might be a bit more substantial. I'm 6'.

I have had Memphis shades in the past on non Harleys and they were very good quality windshields, I'm looking at buying one for my Ultra now also.
