Default any roadgliders put rear saddlebag crash guards on their bikes?

Hey guys,

I an interested in putting a set of rear saddlebag crash guards on my RG(like the ones on the ultra) and was curious if anyone here had done that? Also if possible can you tell me how hard it was to install and if you by chance know the part numbers? This will be for an '08 RG. Thanks.

I just put them on my 09 and it was straight forward install.mine where just the crash bar and not the ones that wrap around the sides.good for protection in a tip over and wifes feet are not kicking the bags.

Yea, I got em. Mine's an 09 so I don't know if part numbers are the same or not. Fairly easy to install but none too cheap. Need to replace the existing saddle bag support bars, add the trim rails and also replace the saddle bag guard rails too. If I recall, the whole shootin' match cost me about $600 all total.
Don't hold me to that (price) but I do think I am close. I like the added protection and I do like the looks too. I don't care for "copycat" look alike bikes.

picked up a pair of "take-offs" from a guy who was rear ended..... no instructions... just common sense.... didn't even take a whole beer.
a few hints that MAY help you... leave everything LOOSE... the bars that are infront of the bags, need to be the first thing "snugged"then step back.... I thought I had everything straight.... but the left bag rails were level, and the right one's weren't... two and a half seconds later... both were level, and looking good.
Then I took each bolt off, and applied locktite.

looks good.....

as usual with HD... you need TWO items... the verticle bar in front of the bags, and the wrap around bars....

I looked on HD website and got the part numbers. Apparently they are different betwen '08 and '09. Rodeo can you tell me how hard the install was. I just had some surgery this week and will be off the bike for 8 weeks so I am looking for some simple projects that I can do while I'm down. Thanks.

Thanks. Part #91216-97 appears to be a complete kit. You posted as I was typing mine. Thanks again.

Thumbs up

I'll say this about the saddlebag crash guards...
Money WELL spent!

As you know, the SG only comes with the bottom supports.
I added the hoops that go in front of the bags, none of the side guards.

Well, I was at my Indy getting a new tire about 2 years ago...decided to be a smartass when I left...twisted the throttle to lay a nice black mark down...got on the binders...DUMPED IT!

What a freakin' idiot I was!

Anyway, road rashed the front crash bar and the saddlebag guard.
Saddlebag didn't have one mark on it.

I don't run them now, for that "cool" factor...I figure if I dump it now, it'll most likely need painting because of the extensions.

Saddlebag guards....GOOD BUY!

It's simple easy "bolt on" stuff. Instructions make it seem harder then it really is though. It's pretty straight forward and the first side is harder then the other because of the first side "learning curve"..

Find them on Ebay or wait for some EG/EGUC owner to strip `em off.

I did the latter.

You can sell your old support bar to the next EG owner who wants to go 'bare'...

I have them on my '06 RG. The dealer installed them.
