Default MHI Rumble Road Stereo

Does anyone have or have any expirience with, the MHI Rumble Road stereo? (http://www.mhinstruments.com/) I was wondering how it sounds and if it's worth the money? I like the idea of the speakers mounted in spotlight buckets. Also, where is the best place to mount the speakers on my '04 Road King Classic? I don't really want to mount them on the handlebars. A friend and I are planning a trip from Boston to Kansas to visit his nephew who is sationed at Ft. Riley, and I'd like to have some tunes for the trip. Harley's "football" radio looks like crap and costs a fortune, so I was leaning towards the MHI system. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Ron

I am wondering the same thing, does it really sound good at highway speed? I also like the look of "reversed passing lamps." Looks way better than the HD football.

JMHO but it seems that if the speakers aren't mounted where they will shoot the sound right at your face the wind & engine noise is gonna carry the sound away and it's not gonna work very well.

Hi Fellows,
I had custom Cycle Sound speakers ($269.00 shipped) on my VTX before I bought my FLHT and I can assure you you can hear them at highway speeds and they sound good too. I ride with some people with the Rumble Road speakers and they sound good also. The reason I recommend Custom Cycle Sounds is their customer service. I had bought the speakers used and there was a break in the wires where the previous owner had pulled the wires coming from the speakers. I e-mailed www.customcyclesounds.com about my problem and they said send them and they would repair whatever was wrong with the speakers even though I wasn't the origional owner. I had the speakers back within a week repaired at no charge. I highly recommend the speakers for use with a XM Roady 2 (best), FM portable radio, or MP3 player. Very simple to install with only a one (hot) wire connection. They ground where they mount on the handlebars. Website for the Custom Cycle Sound speakers is www.customcyclesounds.com

Friend has the Rumble Road on her Fatboy and plays an MP3 unit that sits in a pouch on the tank panel.

Works well at all speeds.

You could mount the speakers on your engine guard and aim them up, you would probably need to run a little higher volume to compensate for distance and road/engine noise.

When I am ready to put tunes on my 03 Heritage the RR premium plus system is going to be the one I use.

Ive got the RR on my 03 roadking. Alot depends on the kind of music you listen to, wind noise, engine noise, and speed. Mine are great up to 65 on a calm day. Anything over that the wind noise kinda diffuses the music. If you run a battery opperated MP3 you will need to get a headphone amplifier for about 7 bucks at Radio Shack. Ive noticed that the FM radio sounds louder than the downloaded music. Also if its mellow music you wont hear it well, but if its recorded live or is a high powered band the sound is better. If the wind noise at high speed is too great, you can use the foam earplugs and believe it or not the music becomes clearer. All in all its a good alternative, but will not compete with a fairing mounted sound system.

I have them on my VTX I'm trading and they sound great with the amplified speakers, but pricey and if you like the look of them on your bars then yes but I did hate the glare off the chrome housing all the time. you can hear them great at any speed.
