2000 FLHTPI getting engine light and trouble codes
The check engine light is intermittently coming on, then going off, while riding. But is otherwise running normally. Well, gas mileage is low but I was attributing this to getting a map on the PCIII. Was too lean before getting the map, remapping required significantly enriching the mixture throughout the throttle positions, so I expected fuel economy to drop.
Did the big bore kit, new cases, new cam bearings, head work, gear drive cams, 10.5:1 compression pistons blah blah. Got the bike back on the road recently, and the new motor went at least 3000 miles before the check engine light started coming on then going off while riding. Then shortly after this started, the bike was put on the dyno and the custom map was loaded. No check engine light while on the dyno and getting mapped.
As you can see, I started getting the engine light just before getting the custom map, so it's not caused by the mapping. I'm getting codes 56 and 42. Hope that makes some sense. I read that 56 is crank/cam position sensor, and 42 was cam position sensor.
