As Rodeo said, the FM AC is basically an SE with a cleanable K&N-type filter. The install is easy and far more simple than the K&N with its confounded rubber velocity stack. What made me change from the K&N was that the FM/SE eliminates oil barfing by channeling the breather into the velocity stack instead of letting it run down the filter and eventually saturate the filter element. Here's a photo of the '07 model, which may vary from the version that fits newer bikes.
But it sounds like you intend to use a small cover or round cover correct? Sure you can do that but remember that the plain crappy looking aluminum backing plate will show, especially where it bolts to the heads. If that is your intention, take a look at the Zippers brand as they offer basically the same kit except give the option of aluminum, black wrinkle or chromed backing plates. Zippers also has the internal oil passage for no oil dripping too. (It's basically the same exact set up.) www.zippersperformance.com
If you ever want to replace the HD stock football cover, then consider the looks of the backing plate.
(Jamie and Fuel Moto should consider offering those optional backing plates for their kit too.)

I completely agree. I bought the FM kit and ended up just getting the chrome backing plate form my dealer. The plain would look good painted to match the bike, but not left plain. I have a plain baking plate for 08-09 if anyone needs it
Hello, we have not offered a chrome backing plate on our kit primarily because we have had few enquiries. If we put together a kit with the chrome backing plate it will raise the price by about $30.00. I will get some chrome backing plates coming today and will have the chrome kits assembled, packaged and available to ship in about a week.
