I installed the "power package" that I got from Fuel Moto a couple of weeks back which included the Fuel Moto SE A/C. The backing plate in made by Harley and as best I can tell the filter element is a K&N. Here are some things to think about.

1. The backing plate that they use is cast aluminum and not very attractive. You won't see most of it, but you will see the legs that the breather bolts run through where it attaches to your heads and the heads of the breather bolts themselves. The dull, non-pollished aluminum really clashes with the polished chrome heads. I ended up buying a chrome one from Chicago H-D and not using the one supplied by Fuel Moto. You should ask Jamie if he can just send you the filter element and hardare (bolts, screws and gasket) and cut your price a little. Buy a chrome or black backing plate from your local H-D dealer, you will be glas that you did. They are $50 for the chrome ones and include the chrome breather bolts and $40 for the black one. Of course, if you order from Chicago H-d these prices will be 20% less.

2. The three screws that are used to attach the filter element to the threaded bolts that attach to the throttle body are torx plus, not regular torx. If you don't already have a set of torx plus sockets then you will want to buy/borrow some or buy regular torx screws and throw away the torx plus ones that will come with the kit. The torx plus sockets are rare, but luckily for me my father-in-law had a set that I used. I think that you can order a set from Sears for about $30. I don't think that they carry them in the store.

3. The kit calls for low strength threadlocker (purple) to be used on the fastners. I could not find this at any of my local auto parts stores (Advance, Auto Zone, Napa). Turns out H-D has a part number for it and I ended up getting it at my local dealer. Look in the H-D Security and Maintnenace catalog, it's in there.

I think it will bother some but not others. Like most stock bikes mine still has some brushed/polished aluminum still showing, like the wheels and lower legs, and I don't think the cast backing plate detracts--especially since it isn't very noticeable hidden behind the AC cover. I thought about painting it krinkle black to match the engine, but don't think I ever will since I don't notice it and don't think anyone else does either. OTOH if your bike is glowing with shiny chrome or blacked out with no bare aluminum showing, I could see where you might want to enhance the appearance of that area by chroming, power-coating, or painting the backing plate.

2. The three screws that are used to attach the filter element to the threaded bolts that attach to the throttle body are torx plus, not regular torx.
Didn't notice this and I must've used my regular Torx bits, as I don't have any T+ tools. Actually, I didn't know T+ even existed 'til now, so what's the difference between them? They must've fit since I got it on without ado.

Locktite Blue works fine.

I hope you're right about the regular torx bits because I juast ordered this set up from Jamie and ordered with a chrome backing plate. (YES, Fuel Moto now does offer that option) and yes I intend to simply use Locktite Blue.

If you do not have Torx Plus bits the standard T-27 Torx bit works perfectly fine. We have used the standard Torx bit on the 100's of these air cleaners we have installed here with no issues.

Here is a link to info on Torx and Torx Plus applications as well as other bit profiles that my be helpful, also note the statement below
http://pbtools.us/screwchart.html

"Attention: should be paid to the distinction of TORXŽ and TORX PLUSŽ: Provisionally it is possible to tighten a TORX PLUSŽ screw with a TORXŽ tool, however due to the notable play this leads to fast wear of both assembly tool and screw.

TorxŽ and Torx PlusŽ are the registered trademarks of Acument Intellectual Properties, LLC, an Acument Global Technologies, Inc. company"

I would have rathered this than droping $50 more on a chrome back plate as I did, and being stuck with the natural finish one

Only problem I've encountered with the SE A/C is that rubber gasket that fits around the football shaped cover. There's really nothing holding in on tight around it unless you add some sort of adhesive. Don't think that gasket is even needed, but I left it on. And noticed that it fell off and was just hangin' loose...

Is the one you provide able to be powder coated. Sorry if that is a stupid question. I would think Black would look good with the black and chrome engine.

jimmything, I just pull the rubber seal off and put it the other take parts. You don't need it.
