Jamie, I also just shot you an email from bppp@att.net
1. The backing plate that they use is cast aluminum and not very attractive. You won't see most of it, but you will see the legs that the breather bolts run through where it attaches to your heads and the heads of the breather bolts themselves. The dull, non-pollished aluminum really clashes with the polished chrome heads. I ended up buying a chrome one from Chicago H-D and not using the one supplied by Fuel Moto. You should ask Jamie if he can just send you the filter element and hardare (bolts, screws and gasket) and cut your price a little. Buy a chrome or black backing plate from your local H-D dealer, you will be glas that you did. They are $50 for the chrome ones and include the chrome breather bolts and $40 for the black one. Of course, if you order from Chicago H-d these prices will be 20% less.
2. The three screws that are used to attach the filter element to the threaded bolts that attach to the throttle body are torx plus, not regular torx. If you don't already have a set of torx plus sockets then you will want to buy/borrow some or buy regular torx screws and throw away the torx plus ones that will come with the kit. The torx plus sockets are rare, but luckily for me my father-in-law had a set that I used. I think that you can order a set from Sears for about $30. I don't think that they carry them in the store.
3. The kit calls for low strength threadlocker (purple) to be used on the fastners. I could not find this at any of my local auto parts stores (Advance, Auto Zone, Napa). Turns out H-D has a part number for it and I ended up getting it at my local dealer. Look in the H-D Security and Maintnenace catalog, it's in there.
Didn't notice this and I must've used my regular Torx bits, as I don't have any T+ tools. Actually, I didn't know T+ even existed 'til now, so what's the difference between them? They must've fit since I got it on without ado.
Locktite Blue works fine.
Here is a link to info on Torx and Torx Plus applications as well as other bit profiles that my be helpful, also note the statement below
http://pbtools.us/screwchart.html
"Attention: should be paid to the distinction of TORXŽ and TORX PLUSŽ: Provisionally it is possible to tighten a TORX PLUSŽ screw with a TORXŽ tool, however due to the notable play this leads to fast wear of both assembly tool and screw.
TorxŽ and Torx PlusŽ are the registered trademarks of Acument Intellectual Properties, LLC, an Acument Global Technologies, Inc. company"
