I own a Zumo 450, which was designed by bikers for bikers.
In my opinion, the problems with taking a strictly made-for-a-car GPS and putting it on a bike would be these:
1) less robust design
2) less likely to take the shock loads
3) not likely to be waterproof
4) may not have as bright a screen as a Zumo or equivalent
You can try it, and many have, but IMO eventually something's likely to fail on it.

I'd agree with the above. I have a Zumo 550, and I bought it for the reasons stated. I won't use my Valentine 1 radar detector on my bike for the same reasons, I think the vibration on a Harley would lead to premature failure (maybe not immediately, but faster than it'll die riding in my truck). The Zumo is supposed to work with gloves too, but I always take my gloves off to program it, even with the large buttons enabled I seem to hit the wrong buttons with gloves on...

Im with you Id love the Zumo550 but $$$$$ So I have a Garmin 350 Nuvi like you the Ram Mount and I plug it into my HD Radio and the street names come thru the bikes audio speakers, cant use the radio at the same time but the GPS has MP3 Player built in so the music plays when directions come up it mutes the radio then returns to music all for under $225.00 do I want the Zumo hell yeah but with times the way they are I have to "maximize, economize, and compromise"!!LMAO Ride Safe Bill
