I put the stock, Sundowner 2-up and Mustang solo on my bike...to be perfectly honest, there is not enough difference to get excited about. Especially between the stock and Sundowner. The stock may be just a tad higher and wider up front (1/2"). I couldn't tell a big difference.
The Badlander feels and looks lower btw, but if you're looking for comfort for touring, esp. 2-up, in your situation, I'd go with the Sundowner (fugly IMO). BUT, if I were doing it again, I'd not get the Sundowner and look at the Mustang 2-up since the backrest is nicer looking and not at huge as the HD backrests. The Mustang Solo w/ passenger pillon is an option for flexibility, but can't speak to how comfy the pillon is.
Don't know about the Sundowner Solo since it's not an option for the '09 RKC.
I took pics, but don't have them on the computer and you can't tell as much as I'd like. PM me and I'll email some if you'd like.
Thanks for the comparison 'monstead.' "oldmanwayne" has the Sundowner Solo and thinks that it is about 1" lower than the stock seat and "motorman" Jerry Palladino says that same seat is narrower in the front which helps us shorter riders flatfoot the ground more easily.
Looks like, for me, the Sundowner Solo is what I need given the need to stay LOW as possible along with increased comfort over stock. Tks again.
what about the HD Reach seat? Has anyone tried it? We watched a documentary called coast to coast and the lady in it said she put a seat on the SG that she borrowed that put her closer and was narrower and it worked for her. Does anyone know which seat it was that she had put on for her?
Stock seat had me feeling like my ***** were on top of the gas tank. Bought a Badlander, looked great and was comfortable for about 50 miles. Exactly like sitting on a brick wall. Sux. After much study, put a factory Road Glide seat on my Electra Glide. That was a couple of years ago now, no complaints. Gives me plenty of room and doesnt look like crap.
