Oh, sorry IAMSWUTIAMS. A heim joint is an extremely rigid articulating joint, commonly known as a ""spherical rod-end,"" used in any precision linkage.

thats the one that cost 140.00. didn't know that you could just buy a heim for the stock rod. I would rather have something like this than keeping the stock rod.

Apology accepted. This thread is about replacing the crappy stock fittings with heim joints for a grand total of $13, and not spending money on shiny shift rods. As to your question, the description says " top quality ball joints". Hard to tell from the picture what they actually are.

I have Howard's Hog horns on mine, so you can hardly see the shift rod. Waste of money for me. I just didn't want to get stranded somewhere when the stock ends broke. I'm not slammin' anyone that wants to buy a nice shift rod. Spend your money any way you want. I'm not doin' an Obama.(tellin' others how to spend their money)

I picked up the polished stainless steel shift linkage (part no. 33845-02) with the "Classic" script on it this past week. Of course this has the heim joints so I shouldn't have the problem with it braking in the future. The main point though is that I got this $160 item for only $50 on HDCartersville ebay store. They had it listed for $79 and after it expired, I called them and asked them if they would sell for $50. They listed it again for $50 and I grabbed it. They orginally had 3 available. If you need one, give them a call.

It just cracks me up that guys will spend spend spend $$$ for all sorts of Bling and Chromed goodies but will then bit'ch about those who spring for a chromed or polished HD replacement shift rod assembly. It was the "first" piece of chrome I put on my bike with no regrets. Personally, I hope you can find two free HEIM joints layin' on the sidewalk and you do your job for free, it that's what blows your skirt up... I think I remember paying around $80 for mine, and yea, it's chromed! OUCH!

It looks to me that they are (if you use the zoom to look close).
