I tell you what the REALLY IMPORTANT question is: Kickstand or jiffy stand?
hahaha! I cracked up when I read "jiffy stand" in the owner's manual. This is my first Harley, have been riding metric bikes about 20 years and most of my friends ride metric bikes. They cracked up when I told them about the "jiffy stand" thing too. I was riding with one of them the other day and we got stopped in traffic for a few minutes. My friend said "Hey man, why don't you just put down your jiffy stand and relax?" We both got a good laugh over that one. "Jiffy stand"... hahaha!

Perhaps we label people too much, on a scale of 1-10 where does this conversation rate? My vote is 1

There is no "correct term".

Geez, what's up with all the labeling concerns? Got a bike? Just ride! I don't give a **** what anybody prefers to label me. I don't label myself, or call myself anything.

Only labeling concern I have when I ride is what somebody decides to "label" my wife to her or my face. That's the only time I care about labels

You can't seriously be looking to further label those who have a love for the wind in their face, can you? If so, I might as well indulge you. I believe they may be considered "vacationers, who also happen to enjoy riding motorcycles."

My question to you is: Need they be labeled anything further?

---------------------------------

Hard to believe this thread has sustained this long, but since it has I may as well throw an additional $.02

The original poster simply threw out a "label instead of just asking the fellow if he owned a bike, or if he rode. I suppose the entire conversation took a new direction at that very moment.

The term "biker" obviously carries a certain stigma for this gentleman, as is evidenced by his response. Nothing more, nothing less.

Unfortunately there is a term... just like any other Hobbyist,
and there isn't any harm in it.. we as people label everything, I will say that some labels can be stereotyping but the word enthusiast adheres to anything you do that is enjoyable, like Hot rods, RC Cars, whatever.. And I do consider myself as a MOTORCYCLE ENTHUSIAST, and HOG uses the term also... (Harley Owners Group) so like I said before, to each his own.. but if you like it your an enthusiast..

The difference between a Biker and motorcyclist : A Biker will ride in rain , freezing weather all year round. A motorcyclist is a fair weather rider . Since I ride all year long in any kind of weather , I considered myself to be a biker.
