Default Question for those that have ordered a bike?

My estimated delivery date is Feb 27. As you can tell I am annoyingly anxious. I am wondering if you got a notification that it was built/shipped or did the dealer just call you when it was paperwork time? I would imagine they would want me to finalize the deal as soon as they possibly could. Also when you order a bike from the factory do you get any different paperwork stating the bike was built for you?

i was stopping in a my dealer weekly to check on the build/ship date, and I just happened to stop in for lunch the day my bike arrived, so I got to see her in the big brown box and as they were un-crating her. The shipping invoice on the outside of the box had all the info for the bike (model, color choice, alarm, ABS), but it didn't mention my name. My dealer was cool enough to give that to me too (kind of cool to have).

I really think it depends on the dealer - the MoCo won't be calling you though, that's a given.

Also when you pick up your bike ask for the box it came in. My wife and I took a tour of the Kansas City plant and the tour guide there gave us a long speech about the box and what it says on the outside and some other cool stuff about it. So when my wifes 03 EGC showed up at the dealer she went to the salesman she bought it from and asked for her box. Well he didn't hav here exact box but he did have one that came from a bike like her's and we brought it home and used it to line our garage. Very large box it was and it make a pretty cool conversation pieace when friends come over.

My dealer called with an approximate date. I think that it came in a day or two early but could not get it prepped from me till its due the week end a such. I ended up getting it about two days later.

The GM at my dealer has told me that the only thing the dealer gets is an expected begin build date, an expected ship date and once it 'does' ship, then they get the ETA for the bike.

Whether or not they call is really up to each dealer.

My dealer is pretty on-the-ball, and treat their customers like they are family, so I anticipate I'll get an email from the GM once the expected begin build date is available, etc. but I'm not gonna sweat it til the end of Feb. If I don't hear from them by then...I'll do a little probing.

That's about what I got. The dealers seem to only become knowledgeable when they see a VIN listed for their ordered bikes. Prior to this date, there is an opportunity for certain changes to a bike like two tone or color change etc.

When my '09 Ultra shipped a couple of weeks ago, the dealer got notice from HD stating my shipping info, ETA and VIN. My bike was completed and shipped on 1-30-09 and it arrived at my dealer on 2-6-09. It did come in a little early too. Also was prepped the day after it arrived and it was delivered to my house by the dealer's truck and trailer 3 days after that. Very good service from them. The dealer did say that sometimes they get bikes in on the truck and the next day or two the paperwork will show up for them. So, the paperwork does not always come first.
