I would give these guys a call before you do anything. They will be able to tell ya what the problem is. They have worked on alot of radio's and are very good at what they do. http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/
I have an 07 ultra, lots of friends with similar bikes aswell. My radio was doing the same thing, my friends said its the radio not the switch.... turns out they were right, call Iron cross they will fix it up for you. good luck!
I have a 2004 Ultra Classic. Got a new helmet and installed a new speaker/mic system in the helmet. Operated fine on the internal speakers for several months. A few days ago the sound was garbled and then went to only the left speaker. Then intermittently goes off altogether. Tried my old helmet with the speakers and the same thing.
The external speakers work fine in the middle mode or full rear with light on position.
What is the usual problem?

Don't know about "usual," but could be the headset connection; or, the radio. Have you tried connecting the headsets to different bike?
You can call Radio Sound, HD's vendor: 502.267.6768.
change places with the two 0utside wires and see if that makes any difference. if it does then put the switch in the position for the speaker you use the most
I have an 07 ultra se as well and for over a year mine had been doing the exact same thing. As time went on it got worse. I found the problem with the help of Tony at Iron cross audio, I called and he knew exactly what to tell me to look for. He told me to take my front fairing off and call him back. After doing this and calling him back he told me to look at the two vertical braces that hold the radio . At first I seen nothing until I took the top screws out and then I heard something fall , sure enough on both sides at the top they were broken. He also wanted me to look at the braces that run diagonal bracing the speakers. I had no issue there though. I sent my radio for them to repair and make some other mods as well. I called harley and they had these braces in stock. After he inspected my radio he said that I needed to replace the riser bolts as well as the were rubbing on the bottom of my radio. Again these were in stock as well. I have not recvd it back but I sent on Tuesday and will have it on Monday. I would advise anyone having these issues to contact Tony @ Iron Cross Audio for repairs. He knows his ****!!!!!
