In the process of putting on new 14" Cyclesmith's on my 08 RK. I've installed the Novello wiring extensions, but before I heat shrink the wires, I thought I would check with the forum on something. Should I remove the stock wire tubing and just run the wires separately in the bars? I haven't tried feeding them through yet, but it looks like it's going to be a tight couple of turns with the stock tubing. May have to lube it up and go for it, but thought I would check here first.

 

I'd lube it and leave it.....little more protection in the long run

 

I did the Street Slammers on my 06 RK Classic and ran internal wires if you check for my past posts I did a write up with photos and tips. In a nut shell I cut the factory wire protection off about 2-3 inches from the controls and put the wires into a piece of I believe 3/8 heat shrink tubing and heated it with my salamander heater to shrink it. (it was winter) It's a lot easier to pull the wires thru the bars with the smaller tubing on them. Look for the write up and it should help. Make sure you use the grommets in the holes to protect the wires from chaffing. Good luck.

 

I bought the novello extensions and wound not using them. Thought they bunched wires up too much being connections were near same spot, instead cut, staggered and spliced new wires. Shrink wrapped each splice, cut factory sheath 3-4 " from controls, and wrapped in electrical tape from old sheath all the way down, left 3" wire exposed at bottom to see colors for putting back in duestch plugs. Each side slide right down tubes and made bends no problem. That was on 14" chubbys.

 

I installed the 13" cyclesmith last year on my EGC. Be sure you debur the opening of the holes. Mine were very sharp and would have cut the wires. I didn't have to extend my wires, but it's still a fug snit to get around the bends. I got some heavy nylon cord, tied it to the wire and pulled like hell. I didn't lube, but probly would have been better it I had. Good luck, your back and shoulders will thank you for it.
