IF ya go for that and want trick lights, EASTERN Performnce sells LED lights as bolts to secure plate, RED led to rear, and white LED to shine on the plate, code ka9399, description led whte lic plt w./red acc, i think about $26.00 looks neat
I've done the same setup with a FXD plate bracket I had in my junk box and some LED lights I picked up on Ebay. spliced them into the rear fascia LED that I had already instaled and mounted the FXD plate bracket to the rear fender suport bracket very similarily to the way you did it. See my photo albume for more picks.
No problems with anything bottoming out. Just need to watch how you back into spaces. Also, check on a law in your area that states a licence plate must be mounted on the vehicle 12" above the ground. I have heard that is on the books here in AZ, but it seems like it would affect a lot of custom cars and bike. I've not been stopped for it and have had it like this for a while now.
Here's mine fr www.bruisersinc.com. Not trying to knock your efforts but IMO it upsets the balance of the back and draws you attention to the plate and not the bike.
I know this isn't even legal in the state of New York, and I'm quite sure it's not in Pennsylvania either! Best check with your state DOT, I'm almost positive this plate's position and its lack of illumination will get you a ticket!license plates don't work real good for mudflaps, I'd be dumping this idea.
