never used the pledge but now my curiousity is gonna kill me if I don't. I wonder if there is some rocket scientist among us who could set the record straight about what its actually made of and if it is in fact harmful or not to our bikes.

About the first time someone steps up on my fender with their wet feet, slipping off will be the least of their worries. I'm just sayin.

The "old tee shirt" may be a source of swirl marks in the future -- if you have dark paint. Yeah, it was good in the day, but now with microfiber, I'd be hard pressed to use cotton on my paint surface again...

Just my $.02 worth.......

Everything will scratch trying to take dust off especially on black. When mine are dusty, I hose 'em down then blow off with air, never touching it.

Noticed the "alternative uses" area of the Pledge site and there it is about being used on cars... Wrote the Pledgies and asked. Of course, they can't officially recommend it to be used on painted surfaces...

However...

I bought me a can of Pledge Protection Plus. Tried it out in my office on some rather delicate surfaces and I was impressed to say the least.

So - Out in the garage and tried it on "an inconspicuous area" (the inside sides of the saddlebags). Even more impressed.

Wiped down the whole bike with a fairly saturated rag and then easily wiped it down with a dry micro-fiber cloth.

Rather freaking amazing... Wet glass. Darth Vader would call it "Most impressive..." then chop someone's leg off with a light saber while sipping a bourbon and cola.

It only got more impressive after 2 days and around 300 miles later -- You all know about that "eddy" behind the bags where all the crap collects... Barely anything there. And what was there wasn't "stuck" to the paint as it usually is -

Days and days later when the Pledge people answered my inquiry (usually answered in 24 hours according to the web site, but that's for another thread) I was informed that the Protection Plus formula includes a higher content of cleaners and a silicone-based protective layer.

The "content of cleaners" makes me feel as if a normal application of wax or a good spray wax is still in the cards. The "silicone based protective layer" is a big turn-on... Anti-static, but not petroleum (which is anti-static, but actually allows dust to stick).

Anyway, the finish is absolutely stunning unlike it's ever been. And the chrome - Holy crap... Nothing has ever made the chrome look that good so quickly and with so little effort. It was absolutely nothing to make it shine.

I think I'll keep a can lying around.

And yes - I gave my car a quick once-over with it this afternoon and noticed the metallic flakes in my paint for the first time in years.
