to each his own but the whole "simplicity of a motorcycle" theory just went out the window.

Default HK Drive and Play

For those interested. I wanted to mount an iPod to the bike but wanted to have all the features available, i.e. Playlists, specific Artists. It needed to be easy to see without being a distraction. The controls had to be glove friendly. The first Generation Drive and Play fit the bill. They are cheap (ebay) and easy to install. The attached picture shows the 'Brain' mounted on top of the radio unit. One lead goes to your iPod, one to the control, and one to the small screen. Install an RF cable in between the 'Brain' and your antenna cable. Setup is as easy as tuning your Radio to a frequency on the Drive and Play. I run the power off the accessory switch. The screen is LED with an auto shut off for the back light so it is not distracting at night. The control also has a back light. As soon as you move the control wheel or hit a button the lights come on.
Operation is easy. No issues with vibration as the NANO is Flash Drive. No it is not waterproof, but neither is your iPod if you have it on one of those handlebar mounts. I just put a baggy over the control and screen if I run into rain. It must be fairly resistant as I wash the bike enough and it still works.
To those of you who think a Motorcycle should be simple, why are you in the Touring section? You should be riding a Bobber. Enough has been said about the adavantages of GPS.

.....one more thing. The cable they supply to attach your iPod is loooooong. So for those of you with masive Gig iPods, you can run the cable to your side bags, Tour Pack, or attach to your belt.

Hey all:

I've taken Tru's idea a step further....

I have mounted my unit in the trunk so that the ipod is always locked up and never has to be touched.

In addition, I use a cable from the unit to the aux input of the raido bypassing the RF modulator, way better sound than going through the FM radio.

The advantage to his setup is that everything is up front in the fairing. My install required me to run cables from the trunk to the front of the bike. But again, going directly through the radio "Aux" yields far, far better sound than RF going through the FM tuner.

Attached is a picture of my trunk with my amp and the HK drive and play in the upper right hand corner of the picture.

I've been using drive and play's in my vehicles since the time when they cost $150....As noted, they can now be had on ebay or amazon for under $45 shipped.

And the **** near the brake reservoir in my "dash picture" is the drive and play controller.

That has to be the price of one in primer. I got $419.94 for the vivid black one. Question, the FBI fairing runs 399 after sending in the core; it seems like the HD one from Zanotti is a better deal as there is no core exchange?
