Vertically Challenged FLHX Rider
I'm 5'7'' and wanted to know what riders on this forum used on their Street Glide. The biggest issue would be touching that floor and the handle bars. Any advice will help me out and probably others.
I have a 1" lower kit in the front made by Race Tech and a Danny Grey Seat that also set me lower to the ground. I am 5' 7" with a 29" inseam. I am flat footed and slightly bent knee at this point. The bike handles better then ever and the seat is far more comfortable then the stock one..
I'm a height impaired person myself. 5'7 like you. I have tried everything and I think at this point I have hit on a good combination. I have an 08 SG. I have tried the lowering blocks the 11 progressive shocks and a variety of shocks including the Arnott Air Ride. At this point as I said I think I've found the combination for me. I had the front end lowered 1" although I seriously doubt this affected my seat height but it made the 18" wheel height sit at least at the stock height. The second thing I did was to get Bitchen Baggers to give me a set of the Stock Harley Air shocks cut down to 10 3/4. They also make a 10 1/2 version but I was afraid that this might be a problem for the kind of riding and touring I do. Also with the potential for two up riding I wanted some extra travel. The third thing I did was to purchase the best seat I have ever owned and that was a C&C fast back seat. It lowered me an inch. The ride now is great and the gel insert got rid of alot of the vibration that I felt through the frame. Once again I tried a bunch of seats and this is where it all ended up. I sit flat footed now. I wish I could say I wouldn't like to be any lower but sitting flat footed has made quite a difference. I would say your best bet will be with a good seat that lowers you and at the same time will give you the comfort you need and then look at your suspension issues. Stay away from lowering blocks. As far as your handle bars there are several different companies making bars as direct replacements . I rotated mine and got them a little closer to me and the position felt better as well. You might want to try that before purchasing a new set first.
Good luck!

Hey Overdoo, you say you tried the arnott air. What was it you didnt like? I have the same issues with my RK custom. I bought a corbin with a shaved knose but need to get lower. I thought about arnott but then heard about bitchin baggers. You think bitchin baggers is the better way to go and why ?
I have a 27" inseam but I am 5'-9". I do not have a bit of problem one legging it at stop lights and I also do not have a problem moving the bike backwards. Stock Road Glide w/13" shocks and stock forks. To what ever you wish is what you set your bike at. The lower you go the sooner hard parts hit. Shorter crap HD air shocks are definitely not the answer nor is Airnott. Your ride will suffer. I do not believe you should go any shorter than your bike is already. Again it is your bike and you should do what you like. End of story
I also run 1" lowered shocks (Bitchen Baggers) and a Danny Gray Seat. Don't be afraid to lower a bagger. If done right the ride is just as good as stock and the bike handles better in turns with a lower center of gravity. Guys have been slammin Harleys since Harleys have been built. Good luck.
