While your down fixing that shifter arm, check the front shaft where it goes into the outer primary. You might find some play in that that one too (I did last year). I replaced the front shaft and rubber bushing, which helped tighten things up as well as a new shifter arm where it goes into the tranny. There are also 2 steel bushings inside where the front shaft goes that can be replaced but the old ones have to be pressed out first. It's still started to loosen up a little after some riding but is much better than before.

That shaft that comes out of the tranny (with the teeth on it) is called the shifter pawl assembly. You have to replace the whole assembly from inside the tranny to do it right.

I'll end up doing one eventually; most of us do (at least once). See some other past threads on this topic.

Just go ahead and replace the shifter pawl (splined shaft). That is the real problem, very common.

Thanks for all the replies! I ended up just getting a replacement bolt to see how that goes and it tightened up good and was fine on a test ride.

Default Mine too

My shifter pawl is loose also, just found it after a pretty long ride. I must have jammed on the shifter too hard.

It looks like I have to remove the primary to replace it?

I like the idea of changing the allen screw personally.
