With stock windshield height on each (other than SG). I'd say the batwing provides better protection of your face from rain. A tall windshield on the shark nose would make it about equal if not better.
The sharknose provides more protection of your arms and hands.
Wind protection I'd say Sharknose, especially if the Batwing doesn't have the extra wings.
Lowers will improve both.
well i can say this i was riding with some friends that had no fairing they were soaked lol only thing wet on me was my knee caps. we all had a good laugh and i still catch grief over it. lol (the rain only lasted for about 500 feet) oh one night on my way home from work it was down pouring bad and i had to go through traffic lights and as soon as i stop it was over. but man it was so hot in that plant that when the rain hit it was like ahhhhh!!!!!. it was raining so hard i pulled into a flat parking lot and my whole shoe was under water. so enough rain and it won't matter what you got. and after a hot night at work sometimes cool rain hit's the spot. but buy what you like, personally i don't recommend the 96 motor to any one anymore due to the high heat. and it will be even more hot with a fairing, i will probably catch alot of lip for saying that but i'm not gonna lie to ya it is hotter with a fairing.
I had a bat wing and lowers and my knees always got wet, traded it in on a new Road Glide and put lowers on it. Now I don't get wet unless it is pouring. I don't usually stop to suit up and at the next stop when my wife pulls up on her FLHT with lowers she is wet from the knees down. Darn her luck!
not basing it on that, i like them both...i rode both but in dry weather. i do alot of long trips, i am really liking the road glide for some damn reason. but i could also deal with the eg. my road king is fine, i wear a rain suit anyways. but the season up here is more cool then it is warm, so i figure i can really stretch my riding season. but i do average between 15 and 20,000 a year. just want to be more comfortable
