To answer the original question, yeah. My last two bikes were FLHT's and I never really got used to the fairing. Just personal preference. So, I'm waiting on my new 09 Road King.

I had to change my windshield too. I'm 6 foot and the wind comin up my nose was too much for me to enjoy my rides. An e-bay 8" lexan smoked shield did the trick. Love my SG.

thanks.

No real issues with mine at all even with a 6" shield. I've had two Road Glides and love them but wanted a more "traditional" look if you will this go round so batwing it was. If offers better protection overall than the Road Glide but the front end requires a bit more to move around from the weight of the fairing etc. Everything has it's trade offs but all in all, I have zero regrets.

Sorry but I just can't tolerate M.M.

Buffeting I think can best be described as wind turbulence that bangs your head around from side to side. Duck further below your windshield and it disappears, raise your head above far enough and the air flow gets more laminar (straight) as it hits you, (but without the side to side movement that is more annoying.) Buffeting is caused by disruption of the air flow and is not necessarily all windsield related. Wind can be forced up from underneath your bike, between the forks etc. I've heard that adding wind deflectors to the forks helps with buffeting too. Lots of factors involved and that's why there is no one clear cut answer to correct it. Buffeting happens near the top of the windshield where the air stream behind your windshield meets the air flow that is coming over the top of it. At least that's my take on the definition, cause and effect.
