I am getting ready to purchase a Quick Detach Passenger Backrest for my Road Glide. I was going to get the # 52933-97B, which is the taller of the two available in the 2006 Parts and Accessories Book. I looked on the MOCO website, and they list a new one also, #52723-06. Here is what the website listing says...
The perfect complement to touring seats with large passenger pillion area, this brilliant, chrome-plated backrest is 2½" taller than Passenger Sissy Bar P/N 52933-97B. The Tall Upright accepts most touring model passenger backrest pads and features easy on-and-off Detachable convenience. Requires separate purchase of Detachable Docking Hardware P/N 53803-06.
Anyone ever seen or have this new one? For those of you who have the 52933-97B, how does your wife/girl/SO like that? Would they like it 2 1/2 inches up, or would that be too high for them? I have a Mustang Ultra Touring 1 piece seat, so I was thinking that this new backrest might be good. It uses the same pads as the 52933-97B uses. The price is similar, just a few dollars more for the new one. It uses the same docking hardware as the others, from what I can tell.
We have that one on our FLHT. Tried all three at the dealer (they had one on the showroom and changed them out so my Bride could try all of them). She definitely preferred the taller bar - said it hit her back just right. (She is a little over 5' by the way.) Same hardware as the others, and choice of pads.
We had the tall one on ours. hubby said it made the bike look funny. Took it back for the shorter one and I'm fine with it. I'm 5'2" and it's fine for me. I think it's going to be personal preference
have one on my 06 road king and the wife is very happy with the tall rest, hits her right square in the back, and I think it will be good for her on the longer trips. Looks good to me on the bike[sm=biker2.gif]
The taller one will accept a luggage rack. Backrest and Luggage Rack are bolted together as one unit, so when they are removed, it "sleeks" the bike out. I prefer the looks of the short one though.
Good find as I have been flippign the pages in the big book myself lately.
Let's say you "want it all" meaning full boat tour pack for the long hauls, jus a sissy bar/backrest for the short hauls, and sleek with nuttin' for toolign round touwn.
What bracketry do you need?
On page 401, I'd think 53804-08 would do the trick, but this new sissy bar at the HD site sez use 53803-06
Good info!
As Iam debating on buying a passenger seat to go with my Sundowner Solo or a complete 2 up seat. I also have been looking at the removable backrest for 2 up riding. I just want to have an easily removable one for the solo seat days.
