I installed the EVO Industries 30T gear with chain today on my 08 Ultra Classic. It was a very easy install but took me a while. I had never had the primary cover off so that was new to me plus my neighbor across the alley kept bringing me a beer.
Now the bike runs as it should. Before it was "work" to start off smooth in 1st gear with the bike loaded 2 up. Now it's easy to take off and I really like the new gearing. When just riding alone in the city 40 to 45 mph hits in the rpm band better,
I did notice without the compensator you don't want to lug it. Sisth gear pull is a plus.
My cruise still works well but I lost the 6th gear dash light which is not a big deal althought I did look at it from time to time.
If you have an 08 Ultra this is a must have. Totally different feel to the bike. A pleasure to ride.
I have a 08 Ultra, and am very intereted in doing this mod. What all comes in the kit and what other parts are needed? Why do you lose the sixth gear indicator?
If you want to fix the 6th gear light and get the system back in sync. Mastertune from TTS will adjust it for you and allow you to tune on the bike for whatever modifications you may do in the future. The light is lost due to the gear ratio change and the ECM and Cruise Control not knowing about it.

The kit comes with the new sprocket and new chain. No other parts are needed, well except for primary fluid and a gasket.
6th gear light doesn't work because the computer tells the light to come on at a specific rpm/mph curve. When you change the gear ratio (in the primary) the rpm and mph don't match up for the 6th gear light to come on. Try cruising down the highway in 6th and pull in the clutch and let the rpm drop. The light will go out even if you don't shift the trans. Let the clutch out and the light comes back on.
sure there is and that is the route i took. change the crappy stock compensator out for the se comp and change the tranny output sprocket to a 30 tooth. you get the better gearing and a much smoother ride. someone will chime in im sure about the speedo being off, but its minimal and fixable. this route will cost more money, but its definitely the right way to go about it and you wont believe how well it will ride after its done.

Thanks for the info, that sounds like a good way to go. Do you know what did they changed in the '09s to get the different gear ratios?
