An atlas has served travellers well for years but!!! GPS is so much more than an Atlas.
Just try a gps and you'll never go back.

btw...I use a Garmin Nuvi 260 with a Ram Mount....no vibration problems so far.
I called Garmin and was told; "Over a period of time it might develope some problems because it is not 'motorcycle friendly'."

so far it works great.

Thumbs down To many wires for me

Any thoughts on set ups like this? What are the issues some are having getting all their gadgets to integrate the way they want?

I tried several of these type products. Got tired of all the wires, ever time I got off the bike it was a hassle. Just wasn't worth it for me. I tried using a tank bag to keep everything in and at first seem like a good ideal till I stopped for lunch. By the time I got everything unhooked, other where done eating.

Default Nuvi 250

JUst bought my second Nuvi 250. I paid $107 (plus a $10 rebate) shipped to my house from eCost.com. Great GPS and really great prices!

I use a NUVI 350 on an "eCaddy Deluxe" chrome bar mount. I hard-wired power to it by using a cig. lighter adapter that I extended and plugs into my cig. lighter plug inside my saddlebag.

Except for waterproof it's excellent! When this one dies maybe I'll get a ZUMO.

Back to the discussion ... WOW ... Doc Intrepid ... that is one helluva endorsement for the Zumo 550. I was ready to spend $225 to $250 on a 4.3" car until like the Nuvi 760 or 780, but after reading your horror tale I have to take a 2nd look at the 550. Not sure I'm ready to spend the extra $400, though. Decisions ... decisions ... decisions.

I kind of wish there were a way to "test drive" these units. I'd love to take the Nuvi out against the Zumo to really test their muscle. I wonder why some of the rider magazines haven't done something on this ... or have I jsut missed it?
doc-cj - T bag is great, looks good and I keep the NUVI power cord in one side, cell phone in the middle. Haven't tried the S&W yet but I like to keep it on me anyway! Not as much room as you think but it's functional. If I didn't have the ram mount, I would drill a hole right in the middle of the T bag and mount the GPS there.

back to the NUVI - since I already had it for the car I couldn't justify a Zumo. It's nothing to disconnect it and shove it in your pocket or saddlebag when on the road. Yeah it's not rainproof but thats what they make baggies for. I lived all these years getting lost so if I get lost in the rain, big deal. You can also download all the HD dealers as POIs.

With the zumo 550 I push and button, pull the unit off, flip a protection cap and its done. less than ten seconds on or off.

Ok, here is another question. Does anyone use one of the Garmin Oregon 200 (or 400) handheld gps with their motorcycle? They are small, touchscreen, and can do turn by turn directions if you add the appropriate maps to them. Oh yeah, waterproof, batteries last for 16 hours, etc.
