I have a Nuvi 260. Got it on sale at Costco for $119. Bought a ram mount and its working great. I hard-wired it to the accessory switch to power and charge it while riding, have no regrets so far.
I am using a Garmin Nuvi 350 hard wired to Acc. switch also. I have even used a set of earphones from my mp3 player ( using only 1 of the ear buds ) and it is amazing how well I can hear the commands even on the Interstate.
I ordered the power cable from NuImage.com and just spliced it into the orange wire on the Acc. rocker switch on my SG. That way I can turn it on and off with that switch when I need it. If you wire it to be constant power it will be powered all the time ( Duh !! ) ....my cable has a power reducer with an indicator light that would be on all the time if I wired it hot. I am also using the Ram mount and love it.
Does anyone use a Garmin Nuvi 550? That unit says it's waterproof as well, but I'm curious to know how viewable the screen will be when out in sunlight? Apparently the Zumo's have some kind of special screen to make them easy to read in the sunlight, but if I can get a unit that functions similarily for WAY cheaper, then I may do it.

I do. I have had some glare issues but I just rotate the gps straight up/down or angle depending on the sun. works so far great for me
I was looking at my service manual yesterday at the wiring section in the back. Found a "fender tip" light harness that is not used on my Road King. Located the harness end in the nacelle. It is wired to the ignition switch for both accessory and ignition side.
Going to get the end of the plug and hard wire in my Nuvi 200. I don't see any reason to not use this as it is right in the nacelle and the Nuvi draws very little.
Anyone had experience with this particular harness?
You mean this wire. I just posted about it yesterday. it doesn't go to the fender tip. I have another wire that goes there. this one is hot with ign on and acc

Can anyone tell me what that orange wire with the female blade style connector is for? I saw the exact same while inside the nacille of my '08 RK.
