Default Lowering Bracket Vs. shocks

Okay, so I'm looking for the economical solution, but the better half has back problems. I've got the front end at the shop being dropped 1" and I'm looking to drop the back 1-2 inches as well. I've looked into the bolt relocation bracket and it seems to screw with suspension geometry. I'm thinking of doing some measurements and trying to solve for the best solution and build my own blocks since they're simply a piece of .250" steel plate.

My question to those who have had both- is there a large difference?

which do you prefer?

BM

My local wrench refuses to install the lowering brackets. He insists I go with lowering shocks for safety since I intend to hold onto the bike.

thanks for the tips. Any particular brand you'll like? I'd really like to not spend $500 on shocks... I might look at Street Glide shocks for now and put something nice on later.. are the "air" shocks really that much better? I know the king rides a metric sht ton better than my honda did on coil shocks.

I just ordered some Ultima 12" chrome shocks off eBay for $140 today, after reading the glowing report here:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...mpression.html

I had priced the Progressive 440s and, like you, didn't feel like dropping $450-500. I hope to have good results on my 06 RK as well. Either way I'll report back to the forum.

i bought the ultima 12 inch shocks off ebay last year, they are garbage, my bike did nothing but bottom out and i even put as much as 30lbs of air in them and they still bottomed out and i'am only 170lbs. reinstalled the stock shocks and the pingel 1 inch lovering blocks and i'am only running 10 lbs of air and the bike hasnt bottomed out yet.

Default lowering shocks

I am waiting on my shocks from bitchin baggers. They got alot of good reviews on here. I spoke with them and they said that they can shorten your stock shocks and you cant bottom out the fender to the tire. I am going down to 11" on my rk custom. The price is decent to . Do a search on here for the link or someone might be able to post it. I will post my review when they get back and it warms up.

Did ya notice the "glowing" report on the ultima shocks had zero people concur with the posters report? Maybe it's just me...But I'll pass on the Ultimas until I here more positives! You have a cheap bike...you put on cheap shocks. Invest in the Riders and the Bike and you'll usually get out of it ok! Cheapen your ride with cheap stuff...you usually always pay for it in the end!

Ride Safe, Mike

+1 I went with Pingle steel lowering blocks, I've got over 19,000 mi on them. The ride I cannot tell the diff. Just changed the original rear tire (19,450 mi.) No abnormal wear and everything else looks good. The blocks only change the angle of the shocks by 4 or 5 degrees. I've been thru the dragons tail about as fast as a lowered bagger can and it handled great. I've been using lowering blocks for 45 years on my scoots and never had a problem.
