Default How do I remove my forks / cans?

Hey all,
Doing a repaint on my SG, and would like to include the forks and cans in the process. I have the front of the fairing and the front wheel off already. I could do the can replacement and paint work without disassembling the fork if it will just slip off...

Service guide makes it look like it is just the very top bolt that has to come out to remove the fork without disassembling it. However, that looks like it is awkward to get to. Anyone done it and can provide tips? Thanks!

I used the rear axle wrench from my tool kit to get to the top bolts, The bottom triple clamp is also bolted - just loosen or remove those and they should come right out.

Sometimes they have a touch of glue that prevents them from sliding down, but once you have the top bolt out, fender disconnected, pinch bolt out they will slide out.

Thanks to all of you for the quick replies. I'm going to give it a try tonight. Do I have to take off the inner fairing or remove anything else to get at those top bolts?

I pulled my forks out but I had to beat them out-mistake and caused damage-but I got them out. Now I'm trying to get them back in and they wont "slide" back in. I took out the pinch bolts and tried to open up the gap at the pinch bolts by beating a wedge in the slot without much luck. So if you find a way to do this I could some help.

The inner fairing does not need to come off but I had to take the fairing cap off to get to the top bolt from the back side. Taking the cap off does require taking the iginition switch out and moving the tank back for room though.
