I dunno, the 2009 RG that I have is absolutely outstanding. I don't know how it sells, but I get a whole lot of compliments on it.

During this financial tsunami, HD undoubtedly has to cut cost, but maintaining a product line that will still lure in customers.

HD, like everybody else, needs cash flow. It would be a shame if the RG was discontinued, but.....hey, I have mine!!!

..there ALL nice bikes when you think about it, but all car/motorcycle companies are doing the same thing. Hummer...GONE...Saturn...Gone...and plenty more of that to come...this isn't a normal economic cycle we're in..HD has got to be almost in panic mode at this point. just read an article last week about heir condition...it aint good!. Stock price in the cellar, average age of buyer went UP!to almost 50 years old...I said it here a few times, HD failed to capture any significant segment of the younger market...Japs still rule there and Vrod didn't do it..they have to trim down to survive....

But believe it or not, that's actually a good thing. Why? because the older crowd historically has more disposable income and can afford bigger and better toys then the kids. Harley is making bikes that targets the geezers (geezer glides) and does a nice job capturing that older market. The youngsters usually cant afford to buy a new bike without a big loan and usually a costly one at that. That segment is hurting worse in this economy with the easy fast loans drying up. None of the Japs have done a good job going after the Touring (older) crowd and lets look at them.

Honda: Gold Wing badly in need of a make-over. Just how long can they keep pushing the same old GL-1800? VTX series? Just about dead. Fury? OK, maybe they'll sell a few because its new but not like Street Glides.

Kawasaki: Launching a new revised Voyager that the true died in the wool Voyager fans admit is nothing close to the real deal of years ago. Lots of hype but you still cant buy one yet. Then there's the Vulcan Cruiser line, revised to 1700 cc this year but likewise nothing drastically new.

Yamaha: Just how long can they continue to push the old 4 cylinder Royal Venture touring bike? Out of them all, the Star line of Cruisers has some potential, but no real hard bagger other then the Royal Star which is dated and unchanged for many many years.

So the Japs aren't miles ahead at all. in fact, in this market segment (geezer crowd) they are sorely lacking. The only thing they really have going for them is price. The youngsters gravitate towards crotch rockets anyway and if they live to tell about it, move to cruisers as they get older. They normally can't afford a Harley until they are well into their 30s at the earliest.

Thats all right, I won't be in the market to buy another new bike
for 8 to 10 years.....and by then I'll probably be riding the
electric wheelchair.
Am glad I pulled the trigger last year and not trying to
beat the rush of this year.

The RG as we now it now may be gone , but it will be back in some other form. Most likely with a tour pak and lowers. Maybe even a redesigned fairing. Who knows? I love my '09 RG!! It is the first year of the new frame and possibly the last year of the FLTR. It will only add value to my shark nose Not that I plan on sellin it anytime soon!!!

...sorry man, but if you think having the average age of your customer going up is a GOOD thing, you never took economics...it's a nightmare scenario for any company...believe it.(the younger you start em, the longer you get their money), kinda like cigarettes..

You asked for it

I think it will be a blacked-out SG (how original) and they will call it the Night Bus. Can't swing a dead cat these days without hitting a Street Glide!

Except that Harley has neven been an "entry level" Motorcycle. Harley can't afford to be in that price range. I understand what you are saying but you missed my point. Harley caters to the demographics that has the most cash and disposable income. That in itself is a good thing. I don't see them changing that either.

..I hear what you're sayin Rodeo, but I'm old enough to remember when HD Sportsters WERE an entry level bike, back in the mid 70's, young guys bought em at $3200...and saved for Big twins...now the young ones want Hyabusa's and Ninjas instead, they don't see HD as a must have..those are the guys who wind up many times on Victory-Yamaha Roadstars-take your pick, when they get older, what the demographic is showing HD is that their base is shrinking, and that has them worried...hell they closed 2 plants, and cut production big time....
