I group of us are leaving for the Sturgis Rally on July 23rd out of Central Ohio. Looking for a new route, I rode Rt. 90 and the wind is unbearable sometime....anyone have any other routes that are nice and may be a little faster?
Anyone leaving on that Friday from around Central Ohio are more than welcome to join us, there is about 10 of us riding and one of our guys is pulling a trailor.
The Interstate is going to be your fastest even if you go through Iowa and Nebraska. If you go through Missouri you will be dipping a bit further south.
Maybe the Iowa-Nebraska riders know some nice two lanes but the big road will get you there sooner.

As suggested above, the wind can be an issue regardless of the route you're taking.
But I usually take US30 across Iowa, I-29 north to Sioux City, then US20 across Nebraska. You might consider taking Nebraska 12 to Valentine then back on US20 all the way to Chadron. From there, it's 385 north through the Black Hills towards Sturgis.

i may be interested in joining you on that ride! i have always wanted to go out to Sturgis but i don't have that many freinds who ride, and i would rather make the trip with a group. Are you guys planning on camping or have you already booked a hotel?
You might consider Hyw 20 across Iowa. It's 4 lane about 3/4 of the state and not as busy as I-80. I'd avoid Hyw 20 in Nebraska and take 18 or 44 in South Dakota. Nebraska is less forgiving on speed.
Ohiochris, we are camping at Katmandu CampGround. We plan on leaving early the morning of the 31st of July and getting into Sturgis late on that Saturday the 2nd of August and leaving Sturgis the following Friday...so we'll be home late that Sunday night. Where do ya live in Ohio?
