Default Wire wheels for a Road King

NEWBE NEEDS HELP!! I would like to put wire wheels on my 2001 RK, so I started researching this forum and learned that 2000 and 2001 wheels would be a straight change out and 2002 through 2009 would require 3/4" wheels bearings for the rear wheel and a straight change for the front wheel. So I went to two local Harley Davidson dealers today and was told by the 1st that the 2001 wheels are not interchangable with any wheel 2002-2009. The 2nd dealership told me the front wheel is a straight change but the rear wheel can only be changed with years 2000 through 2006. They weren't sure about 2007 and the wheels for the 2008 and 2009 models are wider so the offset would not allow them to be used. Then I find a nice pair of 2009 wire wheels on eBay with a picture that appears to indicate the rims are 3" wide. So, what is the correct answer. Every other motorcycle I have owned, no matter what model or year, I have been able to find part numbers on the internet to determine if parts were interchangable or not. Can't find any part number information for H-D's, as a matter of fact, the 1st dealership I went to today told me the H-D hub for a wire spoke wheel does not have a part number. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think in 2001 Harley switched from 3/4" to 1" on the rear axles so I don't think the later wheels will fit your rk.

For the spacer kit I called my local hd dealer and asked them which one I needed and they gave me the part number.

I think the part number you need is 43854-08.

I am not sure about the front wheels.

Feel free to correct me if I have misspoken.

My advise is to find a good local indy shop, and tell them what you want to do. If they're knowledgeable and have alot of experience, they should be able to set you up...

I have an 01 RKC which I removed the spoked wheels. The rear wheel has a 3/4" axle. They are sitting in my garage collecting dust and taking up space, will let them go cheap, PM me if you are interested.

The bearings of the new rear wheel will need to be changed from 1" to 3/4" inside diameter - the outside diameter is the same for both the 1" & 3/4". Had it done to put the later model Profile spokes on my '01 RK.
