Default What's with the low mileage bikes forsale?

I like to watch Craigslist for Harleys, just a habit of mine. Lately I see bikes with really low miles forsale. Like a 2 year old RK Custom with only 18 miles on it. What do they do buy it and ride it home and park it for 2 years??

It seems like everytime I ride anywhere I end up with 100 miles on the bike. Today I just took my daughter to lunch and shopping and we did over 90 miles.

I have seen a lot like that myself. I can't figure it out either. I guess some still buy as an investment and think keep a couple of years and make a huge profit. Not with this economy. It is a benefit buying an almost new used bike!!

Not tryin to start a fight. But my thinking on this is YUPPIE wannabes who buy a bike and then relize they aren't bikers. Or never could pass the riders course seen that happen many times.

Probably a lot of those folks bought them because "Hey, I've always wanted a Harley since I was a kid, now I make enough money, the kids are grown, etc. etc."......and then they find out that motorcycle riding has it's ups and downs (so to speak). So the bike ends up sitting in the garage for a couple of years before they can admit to themselves it's just not for them.

Works out good for the rest of us sometimes...

well I'm getting tired of bringing my bike between the house and lakehouse. I drive a t-bird during the week to work..I've been contemplating selling the t-bird and buying one of these bikes to ride instead. Still have my truck for really nasty weather

It's slick when it all comes together though...

In January 2006 was looking for a bike, cash in hand, found a 2004 RKC with 623 miles on it.

Before taking it home previous owner had installed about $4K in chrome parts, chrome front end; it came with a dealer-installed smoked sport windshield and backrest; plus the cover, 2 jackets, 5 year transfer-able warranty,...all told he was into this bike for over $28K and had receipts for all of it. He'd had this thing listed for sale for around 10 months with no takers.

His wife told me he'd ridden it infrequently for a month or so, then never got on it again - and took a job in another state. It sat covered for nearly a year.

I paid him $17K, flew to his state, installed a new battery and checked the plugs, and drove it home. It was beautiful, literally like new, still had tags hanging on the inside of the saddlebags.

Best deal I'll ever see (I got lucky - I'm not that good...)

Every now and again the planets line up and something goes your way.

Best,

Doc
