Couldn't take mine off fast enough... took the front and both bag crash bars off my '09 King.... I personally don't like the cluttered look....to each their own..do what makes you happy...
It kinda all depends on how you ride and how often. Weekend barhopper, no problem losing the crashbars.
If you ride often and take alot of trips you may want to think twice before taking them off.
Had a dump truck throw a tire cap couple of years ago in SC, the crash bar probaly saved my foot from one hell of a hit from that cap.
Also have layed my bike over once or twice for silly crap and they saved my fairing.
I take mine off during the summer. Winter I use wind deflectors so I put it back on.
A couple of years ago I clipped another Harley with my crash bar in Daytona. Cost me about $700 bucks to fix the other guys bike. If it was off at that time I would have never hit him.
Street Glide has a stripped down look so I think it looks better off anyway.
Years ago I rounded a curve and hit loose pea gravel on the pavement road. My bike went right out from under me. I remember the sensation of watching the long string of sparks flying behind me as I slid down the road. I also remember thinking that my leg was under the bike with the rest of my body on top riding it out. When we came to a stop I was amazed that I didn't have a scratch on my leg. The crash bar held the bike off the pavement just enough so that my leg never touched. Convinced me!
Almost the same exact thing happened to me!!! (except I ended out with a broken arm) I think I will keep them on!!!

Hey Hoofnhog,
I also took all mine off my 09 RKC too. What did you do about the open end of the forward part of the rear crash bars that doesn't connect to anything once the bars are removed? The saddlebag kit I saw on HD's website says it doesn't fit an 09 flhrc?
They didn't get that name for nothing, the do work. My '01 went over twice now in eight years, saved the paint both times (slow or no speed though). I'm putting them on my wifes Softail too.

The brackets from a stock Street Glide might work.
