I prefer the FF myself , my Shoei RF1000 does ust fine ..

Who is the US distributor for Caberg now ??

Seems the previous US distributor couldnt keep up with the demand , and no one has been approved to pick it up from all I have heard ..

The diff between the Euro and dollar made Caberg kinda spendy ..

I've owned both types, but only have a modular HJC now. I would definitely rather have a modular, but then I wear glasses. It's awful nice to be able to lift the face piece to do whatever you need to do then put it back down.
One word of advice... don't buy cheap. A modular has an internal mechanism that can make noise, my HJC does and it can be annoying. I wouldn't buy another HJC as a result, but I hear good things about the Nolan.

I thought about the Shoei multitec vs the Shoei RF-1000 and for my .02 the RF-1000 is the clear winner. It is light, extremely aerodynamic, and has good ventilation. Wind buffeting is kept at a minimum (but I still wear earplugs).

I assume you have made the decision to wear a helmet. You then need to decide whether you want to trade safety for occasional convenience. The RF-1000 is Snell approved, the Multitech is not and there is a reason. I don't have a problem lifting my visor at stops. The only downside I see is that you can't carry on a conversation easily under the helmet, but so what? I'm wearing a helmet to protect my noggin.

The fit is absolutely superb. I cannot stress this enough. You have to wear one to appreciate the quality and how it encloses your face and head. Absolutely first rate.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. You get what you pay for!

I hope it never happens, but if the time comes I need a helmet I will be glad I have a FF RF-1000 instead of an open face modular Multitec.

I wore a full face Bell EuroStar for many years and was quite happy with it. When I got my RG in `05 I thought that the Bell was probably a bit old and did some research.

One of the bike mags (Rider?) had a review of a nice spread of Modulars and I went with the Nolan N-102.

That article mentioned to look for two things (one's been mentioned) in a modular:
  • metal to metal where the flip attaches (hooks) onto the helmet proper
  • flip filled with impact-absorbing foam (vs. hollow)
The main (sole?) advantage of the modular is ease of use. It's so much easier to get that sucker on with the flip up than the Bell ever was.

This is especially true if you wear prescription glasses, as I used to. It was a true pain to squeak those temples (ear-pieces) into the Bell after it was on and try to get them into the correct position. It was even a worse pain when I tried to pull the helmet off with the glasses in place...

Compared to what?
While I do not doubt that the structure of the full-face is stronger than the flip, they both beat the heck out of a 3/4 or beanie...

I just picked up a Schuberth C3. Great helmet for anyone in the market.

+1 on the Shark Evoline. I got it over the winter and it is definitely a good helmet. Regarding the safety question, I have read that some manufacturers don't seek Snell approval because of the expense involved. Doesn't mean the helmet isn't as good without Snell.

I tried a Nolan helmet because it had the sun visor that could be moved down and I could talk to my riding friends when stopped (I was using a full face helmet before that). I ended up not using it after a while because it was heavy and noisy. I've tried half-shell and 3/4 helmets and am pretty happy with the 3/4. But the half-shell is nice on a warm day when I want to feel the wind in my face (and bugs).

The HJC Symax II has an "internal" sunshield that works even if you wear prescription glasses. its inside of the clear shield so it's clean and easy to deploy or retract too. You can even use just the sunshield when the clear shield is flipped all the way up too. It's not quite a dark enough tint though but better then nothing. I really like my HLC Helmets (also own the FS-3) and I also have used Shoei RF-1000 in the past (FF).
