Default Question - modular vs full face

Guys I need some help, can any of you whom has used both the Modular and Full Face tell me the advantages vs dis-adv. of a Modular helmet vs Full face.

My son wants a Modular but someone told him they were not safe..

After having used both, I don't know that I would buy another full face helmet.

Modulars are great for when you want to talk to someone or when parking and walking your bike backwards (so you can actually see where you're going) or for getting some fresh air at a stoplight.

I have an HJC Symax II and I don't really notice any more wind noise than any of my previous full face helmets.

As far as safety goes, who knows, I haven't bounced my melon off the pavement with either.

+1 on the HJC Symax II. I never ride with anything else since I got one. And I've had 1/2s, 3/4s, full face, beanie, and none.

Modular for me, the Shoei Multitech, very quiet and warm when the temps drop into the 30's for the morning ride, and plenty of ventilation for the afternoons when we're in the 60-70 degree range.

Last time I checked, there were no modular helmets approved by the Snell Foundation. They are DOT certified. Apparently they don't hold up to Snell full-face standards. That's not to say they're not safe. They appear to be safer than a 1/2 or 3/4 helmet, but not as safe as full-face..

I started wearing a Nava full face, in 1979, but am glad they came out with Modulars. My wife and I both have HJC Symax and love them. They have many desirable attributes. They are great for cold weather, Rain, and puting on glasses. But we traded them in for HD Spoiler half helmet last summer, in lieu of Do Wrags. But I do have our communication devices mounted in the Symax.... Last and most importantly...there is a large DOT sticker on the back of the Symax..it must be at least moderately good protection for the noggen....so no matter what other helmet some others may prefer.... and having been blessed with no head injury from my Big Wreck ( wearing only a bandana on my noggen)...any helmet is better than No Helmet. I thank God every day that Carlos Mencia isn't talking about me...Dinky Dink!!!!

Ditto for me too! I have used Shoei FF helmets in the past and months ago switched to the HJC Symax II and love it! The difference I hear is that while some FF helmets earn SNELL approval, I hear that no modular can get that recognition. Still, I have great confidence in my Symax II.

Totally concur on the Shoei Multitec........ I have never had a helmet that has the flow through ventilation of this helmet. I can acutally feel the air move over my shaved head...
I also have the dark smoke and clear shields that can be changed out in about 10 sec.
Fit and finish is excellent.

I just bought the shark evoline modular. Have only worn this for about 3 hours of riding so far, but really like it.
