For a serious tailgator, I would just back off the throttle and reduce speed very slowly. This will confirm if the tailgator is just not paying attention or if they are an a$$hole. If they continue to tailgate and the a$$hole status is confirmed, then I would just slowly pull over to the shoulder, get off my bike, light up a smoke and hope they would go on their way. I would not look at the person, yell at the person or offer any sign language. If they stop and get out of the car, I would continue to ignor them. If they begin to approach I would caution them to stay away from me. If they continue to approach I would assess whether or not the person posed a legitimate threat. If yes, I would exhibit my firearm and issue a firm warning. If they continue further and into my "comfort zone", I would consider that an attack and take appropriate and necessary action.

Throwing marbles or pennies is a stupid idea IMHO.

about a mile from my house a woman in a SUV was tailgating a fellow biker. he got pissed and at the next light (which was red) he put the kickstand down and walked back to her SUV to tell her about her driving, before he said the first word......she kicked her door open and......POW! she shot him in the chest. he falls back into the median, meanwhile her son jumps out of the vehicle and while the biker is laying there bleeding from a 357. hole in his chest the kid precedes to start kicking the crap out of him. fortunatley the bike lives and she is being brought on charges of aggravated battery and criminal recklessness.

may want to think twice before dropping the kickstand and taking the walk back. just sayin...

Your lucky you didn't end up with a face full of gun barrel. Never take a big mouth to a gun fight............You never know these days when some fool has had a bad day and ends up finishing it on you.

"The wild boar runs from the tiger, knowing that each be well-armed by nature with deadly strength, may kill the other. Running, he saves his own life and that of the tiger. This is not cowardice. It is the love of life." -- Master Kahn

I must admit I love a good tailgate story. Pennies, marbles, bolts, guns, fights and a few scared straight drivers make for great entertainment. Like a Death Wish, Billy Jack or any other vigilante movie. Great stuff when it happens to someone else.

As a confirmed short-fused hot-head with a violent temper, my advice on the road is to just let it go, man. Yeah, they get under your skin, ruin your ride, raise your blood pressure, even threaten your life. Some are jealous d!ckheads, some are ignorant b!tches and some are dangerous drunk. If they're just lazy and zoned out drivers, a flash of the brakes will do the trick. If your actions start to inflame the situation, best choice is to take another route or pull over.

When you're all hopped up on adrenalin it's tough to think straight, but while you're sitting down calm and relaxed, off your bike, think through the possible consequences of doing anything but getting yourself out of the situation. Seriously. Otherwise, someday you might find yourself run off the road, shot, beaten, stabbed, arrested, prosecuted, convicted, sued, physically unable to ride and financially ruined. All you wanted was a nice ride and now you'll be spending your free time meeting with cops, lawyers or doctors instead.

Let me paraphrase the old Kung Fu master...

"The bad-*** biker gets out of the way of the d!ckhead driver, knowing that each be well-armed with deadly strength, may kill the other. Avoiding conflict, he saves his own life and that of the d!ckhead. This is not cowardice. It is the love of riding, for he lives to ride another day." -- KopperTop

Tailgater on my *** then it's time to do reverse psychology...Drive slow...slower, brake often, turn left...Uh-No, turn right...Uh-No then the driver gets all pissy then I just smile at them when they cuss with their choice of words, drive by me and never see them again.

Tailgaters sucks,

Thorey

I carry an assortment of miscelaneous nuts and bolts in my lower left. Are not as "traceable" as a BB or marble. Nuts and bolts are all over the road in most cases. Hard to prove even if obvious.
Nice avatar!

I train constantly is what can be termed close-combat jiujitsu and am plenty effective with my bare hands; but, the rule is, you only commit when you are being attacked. Otherwise, you do not set yourself up or the situation to bring about a conflict. In your case, you were not being attacked and, although any of us can understand what you did, the emotion of it, you nevertheless put yourself in a dangerous position and, thus, violated a logical rule of safety for yourself. When riding, it is always we who just get out of the way of ******** or negligent drivers; it is our responsibility to "prevent forest fires." Ride safe and cool.
