Whats up lately with these HUGE air filters ? I've noticed that on some of the builders web sited like Bob Woods and others that their pushing those super big air filters. You remember when it was the K&N filters being pushed. Now i'm told its the shape of the filter and size that creates more HP & TQ. I don't know about all that. I believe in a 3 inch wide K&N filter, but to me, thats enough and anything more is overkill. what do you think ?
With the advice from the guy that built my motor,I went a Zippers a/c conversion.A little bigger in height than the K&N I had.
Said it would add a couple HP.
Well I got a three inch K&N filter on my bike. It supposed to be HIGH FLOW. But they trying to tell me, with "THEIR" filter that K&N also makes, you get more torque and Hp. I've owned a 124 and 117 and used normal K&N filters and had no issue with power. I think anyone will say anything to sell something. I also ride in the rain and can't afford for a huge filter to fill up with water.

Air filters limit flow, bottom line, increasing the size lowers the restriction. If you are doing mods to your motor, you are increasing the flow of air into your motor and out. Fuel is easy to supply air is where power is made. If you do xyz to the motor and your filter is actually limiting it then it will hurt performance, bottom line. What your calling a high flow is a high flow but a stage 1. Like alot of things they come in stages, or in bobs case he rates his in CFM cubic feet per minute, or flow. It dosent make much since to me to put that much money into your motor and take a chance on limiting the performance with a $80 air filter. For those who dont know he,s building a 106 with 10:1 comp mild port and polish tw-7 cams 50mm t-body.
But thats just my opinion.
I would love to see back to back dyno runs with all these different filters. I know S&S have done this with their tuned runner filter, and can show a HP gain. Has anyone else??
my lil maliair has more cfm then just about all the filters out there including bob woods and it doesn't cover up a beautiful motor, larger size ain't better in this case. maliair has 346cfm
