Default Dropped The Hog

Was driving slowly into the USPS parking lot and some lady in an SUV backed up like a bat out of hell as I was driving in. Freaked me out and tried to dodge her (which caused me to turn the wheel while braking). Well, I think we all know what happens when you jerk the wheel at a slow speed. The bike headed to the ground like a bionic magnet!

She must have finally saw me or heard the crash (or my voice screaming out a few choice words) cause she turned her front tires and sped off to the exit about as fast as she was backing the damn thing up.

No injuries and I actually leaped from the bike an landed on my feet as it fell on its front driver's side crash bar. The only damage I see is a small nerf to the crash guard (man, they designed those well). Wish I would have just hit the brakes, maybe she would have seen me and I still would have been upright. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Anyhow, just glad nobody was heading in on my tail BEHIND me when it happened.

A guy coming out of the Post Office came over and helped me get her back up.

Beautiful day for riding into work, but what a way to start the day.

Be safe everyone!

you know what they say there are two types of bikers "those who have dropped there bike and those who will" something like that. Now you got it out of they way dust it off and ride on. PS I dropped mine the second day I had-upset and relived at the same time. And you are right those crash bars are excellent, I will never be w/o them. Glad you are alright.

I keep trying to drill it in my head to stay away from the front brake at low speeds. I am sure I would have done the same as you though.

Glad you hear it was only a small nick!

Been there. Front brake, turned wheel, slow speed- "bionic magnet" is right. Bike was on the ground before I knew what happened. Glad your OK.

Did she even see you?

"Bionic Magnet" - perfect analogy!
Did it twice with the disc lock. Duh... I'll never take my nerf bars off - no matter how nice it'll look without. Imagine the damage if you didn't have em.

Everyone does that a least once. It may well never happen to you again. What I'm trying to figure out is, which side of the bike is the drivers side, as the driver sits in the middle.

dropped mine in the garage moving it.....

wife dropped her heritage (paper plates still on it) as we were parking at an icehouse...she was on gravel and rear wheel gave, put her foot down, foot slid on the new rocks/gravel and in slow motion it dropped (and she had some choice words too). luckily neither bike was damaged as crash bars did their job, but her ego was hurt since there were about 100 bikers watching her as she pulled in!

LOL, good point. The left side - that's the side I "enter" the bike on - the driver's side!
