So 9500 miles into my 08 street glide I am in need of a back tire. It still has a little life left in it, but the way I ride there is no use messing with a blow out.
I installed an E3 last May and retained the stock D402 front tire until last month. There was no downside to this combo except that I had to endure the waggling on tar strips and rain grooves that plagues the D402 until it was removed. Now with two E3's in place there is no more, or at least far less, tendency to follow road irregularities as before. I'm getting much better mileage with this rear E3, about double based on the first 11k miles, and at this time have more than 1/2 the tread when new. The two rear D402's mounted previously were completely worn out by 10k. The E3 is cheaper, lasts longer, and performs as well or better wet or dry than the D402--and the only downside for some would be that they are not available in WW.
I have the Michelin Commander on my '06. Believe it's a MU85B-16. Don't know if you're backs the same. I was happy enough to buy a second one when it wore and just ordered a Commander for the front now that it's worn.
I got a flat last season went ahead and put on a dunlop 150 D401 instead of the mu85 (140) D402. It really fill up the back render and was a little cheaper. The only thing is that the load rating wasnt exactly the same but i havent had any trouble. Oh yeah and its the same tread pattern as the stoock mu85.
i read in one of these threads about tires, and hoping i can find it again concerning what tires in the dunlop elite 3 will fit my 08 streetglide, obviously i'm looking for the widest that will fit with still being safe on the size rim the stock streetglide has. any help here would be appreciated. thanks guys.
I'm running the MU90-16 rear, MT90-16 front. The rear is .01" taller and .06" wider than the stock MU85-16, which is not significant difference over stock. The front is the stock size.
Anyone know the tread about widest tire size on a street glide?
Here's one thread I have been watching. Some have installed the Elite 3 160 (160/80B16) on the rear. Not sure how it will work out on the lower SG thou.
