Got an ACC DoT Polo. Fits me great. Very lightweight and doesn't grab too much wind. I'll probably but a non-DoT one soon so it'll be even lighter but that's just me being greedy.
Ok,
just had to jump into this thread. I currently ride with a non dot beanie. I've allready had one taken by the lawman and a 120 dollar ticket to boot.
I'm sold on the acc dot polo helmet. (the gf has one on order now. i'll likely order one soon)
My question is this thou, if their helmet was supposed to be dot legal in 2008 but failed the test, how can i be sure their 2009 helmet is dot legal? It would seem that the helmet manufacturers can simply say their helmet is dot compliant untill they get tested and fail.
I havent found a test of the helmet that actually shows it passes dot spec.
Any thoughts on this?
I'm really curious as to when exactly did one of their DOT helmets 'fail the test'?
carbon fiber is thin, strong and lightweight, but ya still need some amount of foam liner in there to cushion your coconut. that's where the "bulk" part comes in.
FYI, the ACC DOT helmet does have a shell underneath the carbon fiber shell.
Also have ACC DOT polo helmet. A great helmet IMO. Mine was sent back a couple years ago to be refitted for more DOT compliance. So I'm sure that its still good.
If any one has any questions they have outstanding service, just call them and they will take care of you.
Also if you go to Orlando and get yours from the manufacture be sure to tell them your a site member and ask about the discount!

Just curious where you got this information from. I looked all over their site and couldnt find it.

Not the DOT the none DOT, the only difference between the two helmets was the non DOT helmet failed a so called plump bob test where the drop a plumb bob from a height into the helmet.............both helmets are safer than most but if you trust the DOT or the feds looking out for you..........then God Bless Ya.
Go to www.bikersrights.com lots of good info. The kevlar helmet both DOT and non DOT are very popular here .....the acc shorty is as well with the visor.......

The non DOT's don't need to be tested, as they are a "novelty" helmet, their DOT helmets need to meet DOT specifications like any other manufacturer. And they do meet the specifications or they wouldn't be sold as DOT.
Actually you said if the their helmets didn't pass the test in 2008 how could you be sure the 2009 helmets were any better, I"m confused, are you suggesting that their non DOT helmets should be passing a DOT requirement?
If I trust the DOT or the feds looking out for me? I'm even more confused by this statement, are you saying that their DOT helmets are not meeting the DOT specifications? and if a 'fed' pulls me over I'd get a ticket for wearing what is in fact a DOT helmet?
And btw, just to be clear, the OP was asking about their DOT helmets not the novelty lids.
