I had one, however I normally wear an XL or an XXL helmet. I sized it according to the way they instructed. However It never fit my head right. It is almost a perfect circle instead of oval shaped to it was super tight on the front and back of my head and loose on the side. I personally didn't like it, but is was super light and looked really good.
I had the opposite problem. My noggin is more oval than average but they were happy to squash mine for me so it fit my shape. It only took about 20 minutes in their oven to re-cure mine into the right shape for me - no big deal. I recommend you give them a call and see what they think.
Ok,
just had to jump into this thread. I currently ride with a non dot beanie. I've allready had one taken by the lawman and a 120 dollar ticket to boot.
I'm sold on the acc dot polo helmet. (the gf has one on order now. i'll likely order one soon)
My question is this thou, if their helmet was supposed to be dot legal in 2008 but failed the test, how can i be sure their 2009 helmet is dot legal? It would seem that the helmet manufacturers can simply say their helmet is dot compliant untill they get tested and fail.
I havent found a test of the helmet that actually shows it passes dot spec.
Any thoughts on this?
Tom from http://harleygoodies.com/ here. I ride with the DOT half helmet by ACC. It is by far the most comfortable and light DOT helmet I have ever worn. They also give a 10% discount to forum members.
carbon fiber is thin, strong and lightweight, but ya still need some amount of foam liner in there to cushion your coconut. that's where the "bulk" part comes in.
I don't agree that they fit like crap. The headtrip helmets fit me great. 4 other guys I ride with have them also. And their customer service is top notch. My buddy slammed a cover down on his a screwed up the top coat pretty bad. Plus it's almost 2 years old and the inside lining was looking rough. We live about 20 min away and brought the helmet to the shop. they completely replaced the inside liner and fixed the top coat. It's still a bit noticable but nothing like it was. And they did it all for free. that's good customer service on a 2 year old helmet.
Want to know the skinny on so called DOT Laws...........
DOT or NOT Approved? - like chicken teeth, "DOT Approved" helmets do not exist. The NHTSA/DOT does not approve or disapprove anything and they will be the first to tell you. The link above will take you to 16 NHTSA quotes stating so. So how can the folks in Louisiana comply with their State Police bulletin that specifies riders MUST wear DOT Approved helmets? Well... they can't. Period.
Go to www.bikersrights.com some good info, I am not anti helmet but it should be my choice to wear one and what type I want to wear.........
Let Those Who Ride Decide. The only test the non dot kevlar failed was the plum bob test and it only penertrated the helmet slightly...........
I know we need all the help we can get to stay safe ---but belive me our biggest danger is cagers left turning us while yacking on a cell phone..................
acc polo is a decent helmet for a mushroom lid..........belive it or not HD has some decent 'dot" helmets whatever ya wear may the biker gods be with you.....
