As others have noted, your air cleaner isn't safe unless the guy removing it is drunk and falls on the bike when he is removing it. In fact, if you were real careful and didn't shake the bike you could strip the bike right down without the alarm going off. Even if you shook it a bit and got the warning chirp you could just wait a minute for it to reset and continue stripping it down.
I work in an office building facing away from the parkade I park my bike in. There is also another office building between the parkade and my building. The bike parking stalls are on the side of the parkade facing my building and reasonably exposed (No cement wall in the way). From my office (24th floor) I am out of range but if I walk to the side of my building closest to the bike the pager is just barely in range. This should give you an indication of how much range they have in a real world situation.
Short story, if your bike is in the hotel parking lot on the same side as your room, you're in luck. Hanging out in a shopping mall may be pushing the limit.
Anyone have the instructions on linking the pager to the system. Had it set up on my last HD, now I have a new one and would like to use the old pager with it. On the old bike the system was put on by the dealer and the instructions were not passed along to me
