Default Lessened the 5th gear whine

Dumped in some Belray 85W-140 gear oil and I must say it quieted down the 1st and 5th gear whine. It is still there but hardly as noticeable and annoying as it was before.

I've got a bottle of Amsoil 75W-140 I'm planning on putting in my '09 RK when my next service comes up. Hoping it may give me the same.

Have others found 75W-140 to work well in the tranny? Any reason why not to use it?

I have heard that the redline is the best. Don't know because I have had my six speed only 4 days now. I do have the first and fifth gear whine. i didnt have it for the first 50 miles or so. I guess the tranny is getting broken in a little. I am interested in what everyone thinks here. It was going to be one of my next questions. My 1000 mile change will be here quick.

85/140 Mobile 1 works good for me. Seems to shift a little smoother than 75/90.

So let me get this right, your replacing the standard tranny oil with the Belray 85W-140 gear oil ? What will this do to the warranty? Would the oil changes still be at 10,000 mile intervals? I have a 2009 ELC and the second thing I noticed (the first thing was the extensive lean due to the wrong jiffy stand) was the whine in 5th. I just had the 1,000 mile service performed but if the Belray 85W-140 gear oil works on the whine then, hell I'll replace the tranny oil this weekend.

Seem like there are possitive comments on just about all the oils of that weight quieting the 5th gear whine to some degree. I also read that the bike should really be warmed up in the winter or these thicker oils could cause some harm. Can't remember what harm it causes, but I read it here some time ago. I have not reached 1000 miles and haven't decided what I'm going to do. I'm will use Mobil 1 at what ever weight I pick.
