Greetings
New at this folks....so bear with me.
I've got a 94 ultra classic that has run fine for 2 years. It has developed the annoying habit of engine shut down while riding along fat dumb and happy.
It will crank over, lights work.... just wont fire up. Usually after a short respite
she'll start up and roll me home.
I've cleaned grounds, ruled out bad fuel, charged the battery ( and had it tested) and paid homage to the Harley Gods. Runs fine for a week then I get a re run of the same Ole same Ole.
My experience with auto's makes me think the problem could be a bad module that heats up, craps out, then works again after cooling down a bit.

I've wiggled wires in the fairing, the ignition switch and kill switch. I cannot
mimic the problem. It has a mind of it's own.
Has anyone out there scratched you heads in wonder over the same problem? Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me on this problem

Neighbor who is a good riding bud has a 96 Ultra. He had to change the plugs and wires awhile back. May not be the same problem. His would die for no reason though.

Yes it sounds like you have a module getting heat washed. I would start there. I had a 1994 Trans Am that would do the same thing. The Electronic Ignition module is mounted on the end of one of the heads. It would heat up and cause as sorts of fun stuff. I mounted a new one and spaced it off the head with a few washers so as the heat wouldnt get to it as bad. I hope its nothing but a simple fix. I know hunting this stuff down can drive ya nuts.

Beg, borrow, or buy a coil. If you can borrow one swap yours out & see if that doesn't cure it. Coils have a habit of cracking & going open when they heat up.

Default fuel line

To the trained eye my fuel line looked perfectly fine (a ok shape) however the inside of the line would colapse...trust me it took me a long time to discover this problem and I discovered it by accident. the bike would do as yours described and I discovered by tampering w/ the fuel line the bike would then start. I bought a new fuel line even though the bike was under warranty and the issue never returned. I got lucky, I hope this helps, good luck.

First of all...Welcome to the Forums and the Touring Family! You have now moved over the the infamous DARK SIDE of Harley! You'll find us a tight knit group and most of the time give ya great info when ya ask!

I think everyone is on track on this. I'd go coil first then for the fuel line. I had this same issue on an older bike and the first time it was the coil, then the fuel line during the second incident.

You have a great bike there...treat her well and she'l take care of you!

Ride Safe, Mike
