Default To Dyno or Not to Dyno?

Guys,

I need a bit of advice here. My Street Glide is going in for it's 1000 mile service tomorrow. It has Stage 1, SERT and SE slash-cut slip-on mufflers. The bike is running fine except for some light popping on deceleration. The dyno guy at the MoCo says my setup is almost the same as stock and if a custom map is needed at all, it would probably take no more than hour. The sales guy says don't even bother. Anyone with a similar setup to mine? What are your opinions? Do I need to dyno?

There's also a bit of a wrinkle. I can't find the little black thing and the cables they need to plug into the computer. The cables are generic but the black thing (whatever it's called) is specific to my bike. I think the MoCo forgot to give it to me when they installed the SERT. Am I screwed if I want to get the bike dyno'd?

Adam

Did the dealer charge you for a stage 1 download or a SERT? Normaly a download is around $150 and a Sert is $300+. The dealer can perform the downloads with there shop equipment if they are a well equiped dealer. If you were charged for a Sert someone owes you an Interface (AKA black thing)

Good Luck

R Horn is correct, check your bags, it could be in there, maybe??? Mine has my name written on it with a silver sharpie and service usually puts it in a ziplock and places it in the bags. With the inside of the bags being black, maybe its in the bottom and overlooked??
Think it can only be used on your bike if installed intially. GL.

Adam,

After re-reading your post, you must have the download. SERT would be a waste of $$$ without a dyno, IMO, and prolly many others.

Adam,

After re-reading your post again, if you have the cables you must have the SERT.
Sorry, just trying to help and sleepy too!

Just as a side note, the interface can be used on any Delphi bike as a scan tool but only the original bike for ECM flash programing.

When I first got the SERT, they did the standard download. In order for them to do the custom download they need the interface. I don't think they gave it to me. I haven't got the dealer manager involved yet but I may have to.

adam,

You may not need the cable or the module, as the dyno shop may already have these. However, if you ever want to map your own ECM in the future, you'll need the software, cable, and the mapping module. These items came in the SERT package, and your dealer was supposed to give you these also. The mapping module, in my opinion, is the most important. Because after the dyno tune, your bike's mapping is stored in this module. If something ever happened to your bike's performance, you can always remap your ECM to the original mapping by simply plug in the module to the ECM.

You need the "black thingy". If you don't have it you probably don't have a Race Tuner installed. Yes it is worth dynoing bike and tweeking it. When I first got my bike I picked up 10 horse by dyno tuning over download. I had it checked for power right after download and right after tuning with race tuner.[sm=nxsmile.gif]

Thank God I found the interface and cables otherwise known as the "black thingy." The bike's on the dyno right now. I love happy endings!
