Just get what you want, I wanted a bagger and was fortunate enough to be able to get one. It was my 1st bike, and a hell of a lot different than riding the small bikes in the msf course, but its something to be proud of.

Get the bagger. I went from a sport bike to the SG and I like the SG way more.

It's not my 1st bike, but I hadn't ridden in almost 25 years. I got the bagger cause it's what I wanted. Riding it for the first time was piece o' cake. Get what you want.

My first bike (since I was a kid with a dirt bike) was the one in my sig picture. I'm really glad I went with the touring bike. And after spending just about every day of the last four years here on the forum I've noted a few things.

1. Lots of new riders buy a bagger as their first bike.
2. The majority of them are happy they did.
3. Quite a number of owners of other bikes (softails, dynas, V's, etc.) eventually trade up to a touring bike.
4. Very few trade the other way.
5. The touring section here on the forum is the most popular one...evidently we know something others don't.
6. You don't need Viagra if you have a bagger.

Just buy it!

LOL! I agree, why not just go for the best! I have had my sg for a bit over a month and love it. Today I took a challenging road and it was a ball comparing riding it with my 00 Lowrider. Baggers rule! IMO

The used bike market is so soft right now, I would suggest buying an el-cheapo rice burner or even a sportster and run it around for a couple of months to get the basics down, including a drop or two... then, sell it for what you paid for it and go and buy the bagger.

Think of it as insurance "just in case" you don't like riding... you never know, I see lots of 3-4 year old bikes with under a thousand miles on them... that would hurt a lot less if it was 2 G's versus 20 G's.

Now, having saying that, the HD touring bikes are a total breeze to ride.

sounds like your cutting through the chase and getting a bagger first. I think it's a great idea as many try to make what they have some form of a touring bike, spend a ton of cash on it, then sell it and get a bagger in the end.

Life is too short to second guess your self. Get the bagger and have a ball.

Not only was my Road King my first Bagger, it was my first bike ever. Never ridden a motorcycle in my life! I'm 44 and always wanted a Harley and I got my Road King just a little over a year ago! My Bro-In-Law convinced me to get a Road King and I'm forever grateful to him. I love it.

Save your money and get the bagger. You'll end up there anyway.
