Default Second thoughts about upgrading stereo

I just bought a new Ultra and wanted to upgrade the stereo. Now I'm thinking I might not need to. I bought the adapter to plug into the intercom port for ear buds. I can turn the external speakers off with the switch and just use the buds. I tried it out today for the first time with cheap ear buds and it sounds awesome. When my good buds come in I bet it will be even better. I tried it on the back seat plug and it works great there too and she can even have her own volume control and change the stations from back there. One more reason I'm glad I bought the ULTRA.

You may also want to keep in mind that in some states use of ear buds while driving is in fact illegal.

I've had the same experience. I thought at first, especially based on some of the threads on this forum, that I would have to upgrade just so I could get decent sound at highway speeds. But I just got back from an 800+ mile trip and the stock stereo worked fine. At speeds up to 70mph the stereo sounded good.

I also bought the adapter and used it with a cheap set of earphones. I think I paid $8 at Wally World and they sounded decent enough. I imagine a nicer set would be better, but for my use I'm happy with what I have. I also tried the HD headset in my helmet and it was even better. The overall quality of the sound was very high and the ability to block out wind noise at highway speed was a plus.

Just an opinion, but you can upgrade everything in the front for less then $500.00 bucks with Hog Tune front speakers, amp, and tweeter POD. You could add the rear speakers and still be just over $500.00. The system is a simple plug an play system to install your self. The front fairing comes off in a matter of minutes. The sound difference is un-beleiveable. I love to take a ride down main street in town when ever possible, people can hear what ever I am playing for at least a city block.

Just my opinion

I've tried headsets and while, yeah, the sound quality is better -- it's a whole different experience (and not one for me). With a headset or earbuds in, I feel isolated. I don't hear the tires on the car that is sliding up on my right or the brakes squealing on the semi behind me. Even with a loud stereo and exhaust, I can still hear all that.

For me the earbuds are great for zoning out on a beach, riding a bus or airplane. Don't like 'em at all when riding.
