Default Removing front wheel?

I know this may be a simple dumbazz question. I do some of my own maintenance but have never pulled the front wheel off. I have a 03 RKC and need to remove the front wheel to change the rim. Dealer told me to just pull the axle and pull out the wheel. Done. But when I look at my Clymers it says I have to remove the calipers? Why? Won't the wheel slide out of and back into the brakes? Need to know quick. Dealer opens at 9am CST!! Thanks and you can flame me for being a dumbazz if you tell me the answer!!! PS I check the DIY and maintenance forums with no joy.

pull the two bolts that hold both calipers on and then pull the wheel. When you pull the wheel without taking them off, you can't get the wheel past the calipers as they are inside the rim. It's only 4 bolts. Pull them out and let the calipers hang until you are ready to install the new wheel.

Make sure you follow the instructions and don't forget the spacers in the wheels....and torque everything.

Good luck.

I agree, except I don't like to see the calipers hang by the brake lines. Tie them up with string or something.

10mm, 12 point socket for the caliper bolts, 1/2" drive works best!

You have to pull the calipers. Use a piece of string, wire or a bungie cord to hold them up. I attach mine to the front engine guard. Don't let them just hang by the brake line.

Regards,

Bill
