Default Has anyone installed cruise themselves?

I'm thinking about putting cruise control on my bike and am wondering if anyone has done it? I am planning on putting it on myself and am looking for tips and tricks and am wondering if you thought it was difficult or not? Thanks in advance!

Not too difficult.. do you have a service manual?

Do a search on the forum also.. this has been discussed several times in the last few months. There is a link for a tech page discussing the installation that is quite helpful also. (I do not have the link handy, but you will either find it during a search.. or someone will likely post it shortly)

Take your time.. no worries

I did on my '05 E-Glide standard. Wasn't bad, but figure 3 hours - one hour per "hunk". I did it in three sub-projects - the switch replacement on the handlebar (the hardest, and had to be REAL careful of the wiring), the cruise switch on the console, and the actual cruise module that goes under the side cover. Wasn't bad - just take your time ... Mike

I am having it installed by the dealer. Anything goes wrong, it's on them. Dealer quoted 2hrs.

I agree 100%. Not too difficult.. do you have a service manual? With the service manual and a few tools you can do just about anything you will ever need to. Just take your time and be patient. The brass ferals in the grip are a pain because they are so small. I don't think the manual tells you to loosen the throttle cables before beginning, but you'll need to. Roll the dust cover off the cable adjusters, count the threads before you start and write it down. Now loosen the the locking nut and back off the adjuster nut to give you plenty of slack. After you've intalled the swich cover, adjust the cables back to original by counting the threads (remember, you wrote it down?). Good luck, you'll do fine!

I did mine, it was easy. The hardest thing to me was putting the little C-clip on the end of the cable fitting. Make sure you have a service manual so that you can program it to take up the slack cable.

Yes I installed it myself. Its not to difficult, but the instructions are slightly vague. You also will need to intialize it to to make it
engage properly. I don't remember the instuctions explaining the need but anyone that has installed it themselves will benefit
from this simple procedure! Hers the link:
