Default CB/Intercom Setup

Just got myself an '04 Ultra Classic and of course, it has the intercom and CB built in... and I'm really glad to have it! But I don't have an owner's manual for it.

*Just* got headsets (good price, check out HogTies), but until I can find an owner's manual for it, I only know the very basics of how to use it. Only just learned that it even has VOX.

My question is how does the 'setup' function work? If you engage the intercom setup (shows setup on the panel), what do the numbers from 1-15 mean? I thought they might be gain or volume, but changing the number doesn't seem to make any difference (but then again, I'm old and half deaf to begin with, so maybe I'm just not hearing it).

Tried googling it and searching here, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated...

Cheers,

Gus.

if it's like my 2006, it's a "sensitivity" setting. The higher the number the less voice level (volume) needed to activate the intercom. you will notice a slight hesitation in the activation of the intercom and at the lower numbers will loose some of the initial input from the passenger. if you use the very highest setting, the intercom is on at all times and you'll get wind noise constantly. i use a setting of about 11- 13 because i speak softly and that level is required to activate the intercom. if you use lower numbers, be prepared to say a "starter word" like Break to turn the intercom on and start it transmitting to the passenger. the passenger will not hear the "Break" word.

You can order the Owner's Manual for $20 from an HD dealership; and, while there, order the HD Service Manual for your bike as well. Enjoy your new bike.

thanks for the advice!

yeah, called the dealer and they want $45.00... i don't understand why HD and/or the dealers feel they need to guoge the client like this. 5$, 10$, i could understand... but $45???

got the intercom working, which was the big thing, thanks to the other reply... did Ride For Dad with my niece this weekend and the trip was all the more enjoyable that we were able to chat while riding.

thanks to your advice, we were able to get the int working and we (my niece and i) enjoyed our Ride For Dad so much more that we able to chat freely while riding. the IMC headsets from HogTies (www.usamotorcycleparts.com) worked like a swiss watch and the sound was crystal clear. i bought the insertable type for her full face and got the headphone type with the band that goes behind the head for myself as i wear a half-lid. despite my being hard of hearing to begin with, we had no trouble communicating.

tyvm for the reply!

They may have been quoting you the service manual. If you search eBay for "2004 Harley Touring Owner's Manual" you'll find one for $20 or less.
