Default Saddle bags tilted

08 RG and I am getting ready to add the SG rear fasia. Holding the fasia up there last night I noticed what I have noticed on other SGs that the space that is left between the fillers and the bags is off, smaller gap at the bottom than the top. Meaning the top of the bags are further out than the bottoms? Now I did add the detachable hardware a while back for the backrest and added the minimal amount of spacers as possible. Not sure if this caused the tilting or if that is the way they are. I do not think I can remove the remaining spacers (washers) with the detachable hardware due to clearence with the lids so is there a way to adjust the bottom support rail further out to make the bags and the gap straight? If not has anyone used the Phantom Brackets from Sumax? They do have sloted holes adjustments but just come in black?

http://sumax.com/Bags%20Ext.htm (all the way at the bottom of the page)

Thanks,
Greg

You may be able to space out the bottom bag support bracket a bit to square them up.

when i added the detachable hardware to my bike, i noticed that the spacers made my saddlebags look 'wonky'... i have the hard leather bags. i took the spacers off, and that put the bags back in their original position.

i don't have the tourpak mounted all the time, but when i do, yes the lids will hit the bottom of the tourpak. but, i can still get stuff in and out as necessary. and the 1/8 or so width of the spacers does not really add any clearance for this anyway (in my case).

i say ditch the spacers and see if they really make a difference for you. try it on one side, and if you really need to put them back on, well, its only 2 bolts right?

Greg, why don't you post a pic with a ruler so we have a better idea of what your are seeing/dealing with???

FWIW, the fascia is wider at the bottom than at the top which might account for the difference in spacing between the fascia's filler strips and the saddlebags you are observing.

Don't know what spacer you're using for the backrest mounting hardware, but mine uses a single 1/8" or so washer on each side. If you are concerned/bothered by 1/8" difference in spacing between the filler strips and saddlebags, good luck with your installation. Hope you won't be bothered by the small gaps on either side of the fender bottom between it and the fascia.

Also, how did you make out with the broken fender bolt? Is the bolt welded in? What was the solution?

Good luck with your project. Be sure to take lots of pics and post them.

When I put the detachable hardware for the backrest on my Street Glide I noticed the same thing. Don't recall ever doing anything about it. So I guess the answer is
the standard Harley answer! "That's Normal"

The fender bolt is a spline bolt that is painted over, I scraped the paint around the head and tried to tap it out and it would not budge....taken it it tomorrow for a service and will get them to replace it. Then I can add the SG rear fasia and next am adding shotgun lights for turnsignals and removing the turnsignal bar and mounting the plate under the tail light with a smoked 71 LED tail light with lights on the bottom of the lens for the tag. My next step will be to add LED strips it the gaps between the fillers and the bags that will be run/brake and then amber turn, then will make the shotguns just run/brake.

Has anyone ever tried to adjust the bottom rail support.

Wondering if I could elongate the holes where it mounts to the fender bracket and maybe a spacer or washers for the front where it arraches to the frame under the side cover?

Or am I just being too pickey?
